How to apply for Bachelor’s Degrees

Welcome to apply for Jamk's bachelor's degree programmes! Find important information about the application times and admission process.

The instructions below concern joint application period of spring 2024 on 3 - 17 January 2024 by 3.00 p.m. Finnish time for degree programmes conducted in English.

Sledding students

General entry requirements

Eligibility to apply for higher education studies can be obtained with:

  • the studies required for graduating from the Finnish upper secondary school and Matriculation Examination (or only the Finnish upper secondary school)
  • a Finnish vocational qualification, further information at studyinfo.fi
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) degree, Reifeprüfung (RP) degree, Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) degree or European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma 
  • a Finnish vocational college diploma or higher vocational diploma
  • foreign degree/qualification which gives eligibility for higher education in the awarding country.
  • higher education degree (bachelor's level or master's level)

You can apply if your degree certificate is completed during the spring of applying.

To be selected by the International UAS Exam, you must submit an English language proficiency certificate by 24 January 2024, 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

Please notice that the entrance examinations/online course will take place before we have checked your eligibility. It’s possible to participate for the exams/online course even if you are not eligible or you have not attached required documents and thus cannot be admitted as a degree student.

The admission is conditional until the university of applied sciences has checked applicant’s final school certificates. The UAS will cancel the admission if an applicant fails to submit certificates by the specified deadline, or if an applicant has provided false information. 

International UAS Exam: English language requirements

In order to be considered for selection by the International UAS Exam, you must submit an English language proficiency certificate or a certificate of your previous studies by 24 January 2024, 3.00 pm Finnish time.

1. English language proficiency certificate:

  • IELTS Academic: a minimum total score of 6.0 (Test sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking)
  • TOEFL Academic (iBT): a minimum total score of 60 (Test sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing). Jamk University of Applied Sciences’ TOEFL code is 0719.
  • Pearson PTE Academic: a minimum total score of 55 (Test sections: Speaking and Writing, Reading, and Listening)
  • Cambridge English Scale Score: a minimum total score of 169 (Test sections: Reading and Use of English, Writing, Listening, and Speaking)

IELTS Academic UKVI, IELTS Online, PTE Academic Online and TOEFL iBT Home Edition are also accepted.

2. National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI) English: Grade 4 or higher on all the subtests (speaking, listening comprehension, writing, and reading comprehension)

3. Higher education degree completed in English in an EU/EEA country, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, United Kingdom, or the United States

4. Upper secondary degree completed in English in an EU/EEA country, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, United Kingdom, or the United States

5. One of the following grades in the Finnish Matriculation Examination, European Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate or Reifeprüfung/DIA:

  • Finnish Matriculation Examination (completed in Finland): English advanced syllabus with a minimum grade M
  • The whole International Baccalaureate degree completed in English
  • International Baccalaureate final examination: higher level English with a minimum grade 4
  • European Baccalaureate: at least grade 6.00 in L2-level English
  • Reifeprüfung/Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) completed diploma: at least grade 7 in advanced English

6. Applicants graduating in spring 2024:

  • If an applicant graduates in spring 2024 and it is not possible to obtain a required proof of English language skills during the application period, they can still be invited to the International UAS exam. The final required proof of English language skills must be submitted by 11 July at 15.00 Finnish time. The possible student selection is conditional until the certificates are verified. If the language requirement is not met, the selection will be revoked. The exception applies to those completing the following degrees:
    • Finnish matriculation examination (completed in Finland)
    • International Baccalaureate
    • European Baccalaureate
    • Reifeprüfung/DIA
    • Finnish vocational basic qualification conducted in English

 

Only the certificates listed above are accepted with no exceptions. Please read more about expiration dates and validity of language proficiency certificates and other important information on UASinfo.fi.

The language test results must be verifiable from the online verification service of the organiser until 13 March 2024. If the test scores can no longer be verified, the test is not valid. 

  • The TOEFL test cannot be verified after two years. 
  • The IELTS test cannot be verified after three years. 

The applicant should make sure that the test results are not too old. If the applicant is unsure and the test results are more than 2 years old, it is advised to retake the test. When taking the language test, the applicant should choose the UAS that uses the International UAS Exam as the recipient of the results. The results must be at least sent to the UAS that is listed highest on the list of targeted study programmes in the application form. The applicant must also attach a scanned/electric copy of the test result to the application for verification purposes, and notify their unique identifier.

Discretionary Admission

Jamk uses discretionary admission if your educational qualification does not meet the general entry requirements.

Based on the documents of your prior education and the result of the International UAS Exam/online course, Jamk UAS decides if you are eligible for admission.

1. Submit the online application form on www.studyinfo.fi on 3 - 17 January 2024 by 3.00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+2).

2. Submit your documents to the online application form by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+2)

  • Possible final school certificates (or transcript of records if you are not graduated yet) and official translations of documents, if required.
  • Submit english language proficiency certificate, if required.
  • No motivation letter or additional forms are required for Jamk UAS.

3. Participate to entrance examination/online course.

Please notice that the discretionary admission decision can be made also after you have participated for exams/online course.

The instructions mentioned above concern only Jamk UAS. Please notice that other UAS's might require additional forms or information concerning your educational background. Please read carefully the admission criteria of your other application options and contact them, if necessary.

 

Refugees

If you are a refugee or in a refugee-like situation and you don't have an access to your  education qualifications, the UAS' can invite you to the entrance examination.

In this case you must prove the refugee status by a decision made by a competent authority and send a copy of the decision (a decision on asylum or a residence permit granted on the basis of a need for protection) to Admission services by 24 January 2024 by 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

In addition, please request a Verification of Educational Background form from Admission services in case you do not have your original degree certificates. Fill in the form and return it to all of the UAS's you are applying for.

Please note that you must submit an English language proficiency certificate by the set date.

Application

You can access the application during the application period on Studyinfo.fi. Carefully read the instructions in the beginning of the application.

You can choose six application options. In the first joint application of the spring you do not have to place the programmes in order of preference on the application. You can be accepted to six different degree programmes, but you can choose only one.

Please notice, that you can submit only one application form. If you submit several, only the latest will be taken into consideration and all others will be deleted. 

We strongly recommend you to fill in your own application form, agents are not needed. After submitting the application, you will receive a confirmation email to the address you have given on the application form. Please use your own email address. If you use other person’s email address and they have applied before, the personal information of the other person will transfer to the new application. Please check your email and also your spam email folder regularly.

Attachments: degrees completed outside Finland

Submit the required attachments to the online application form (e.g. as pdf/jpg/png -files) by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

  • copies of the original final degree certificate (senior secondary school/high school/higher education qualification)
  • authorised translation of the certificate if required (in English, Finnish or Swedish, the translation must have the translators' signature and stamp), copy is enough
  • copy of a valid passport / biometric EU/EEA identification card, if required
  • an English language proficiency certificate, if required
  • Non-EU/EAA citizens: If applicable, copy of a document that exempts you from paying the tuition fee

You can apply if your degree certificate is completed during the spring of applying. In this case, attach a transcript of study records or other certificate provided by the learning institution that states the degree/qualification you are completing to your application (and official translation if needed).

  • It should also state the scope of the degree and estimated date of graduation.
  • The certificate should be provided with the official stamp of the educational institution and must be signed and clarified by an educational institution representative including a representative's title.

If you have already graduated, UAS' accept only the final certificates awarded by national and regional bodies granting educational certificates. Various other documents such as "Testimonials", "Statements of Results", or "Result Slips" are not accepted as official certificates.

Your admission is conditional until the final original degree certificate has been checked at the Student Services in the beginning of studies. The final deadline to present the original final certificates is 31 August 2024.

International UAS Exam: English language requirements

To be selected by the International UAS Exam, you must submit an English language proficiency certificate or a certificate of your previous studies by 24 January 2024, 3.00 pm Finnish time. Please read more: International UAS Exam: English language requirements

For Business Information Technology and Information and Communication Technology it is NOT necessary to provide a language proficiency certificate. The English language skills will be tested at the online course. 

Attachments: International Baccalaureate, Reifeprüfung, Deutsche Internationale Abitur or European Baccalaureate

Submit the required attachments to the online application form (e.g. as pdf/jpg/png -files) by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

  • copies of the original degree certificate
  • authorised translation of the certificate if needed (in English, Finnish or Swedish, the translation must have the translators' signature and stamp), copy is enough
  • copy of a valid biometric passport / biometric EU/EEA identification card, if required
  • an English language proficiency certificate, if required
  • Non-EU/EAA citizens: If applicable, copy of a document that exempts you from paying the tuition fee

If you graduate during the spring and apply with International Baccalaureate (IB)/European Baccalaureate (EB) degree, please attach your predicted grades or the final grades of Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) degree to the online application form by 3 April 2024 by 3:00 p.m. Finnish time.

Your admission is conditional until the final original degree certificate has been checked at the Student Services in the beginning of studies. The final deadline to present the original final certificates is 31 August 2024.

Attachments: Identification documents (International UAS Exam)

You need a valid, acceptable identification document to be able to participate in the International UAS Exam. The passport/identity card has to be valid until 21 March 2024. The following documents are accepted as a proof of identity with no exceptions: 

A passport

  • Submit the number of your passport to the application form by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.
  • Attach the cover and information pages to your application form by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

A biometric EU/EEA identification card

  • Submit the number of your EU/EEA identification card to the application form by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.
  • Attach a copy of both sides of the card to your application form by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

If the information you submit is incorrect or you do not submit the required information to the application by the set date, you cannot participate to the exam.

Notice, that also Finnish citizens must submit identification document!

International UAS Exam

International UAS Exam, an online entrance examination, concerns the following degree programmes:

  • International Business
  • Tourism Management
  • Nursing
  • Purchasing and Logistics Engineering
  • Automation and Robotics

The International UAS Exam will be held online 21 March 2024.

  • The entrance examination assesses the applicants’ abilities to study in universities of applied sciences.
  • The entrance examination does not contain any pre-reading materials or pre-tasks.
  • The applicant must score minimum points in order to be selected.

English language profiency certificate

In order to be considered for selection by the International UAS Exam, you must submit an English language proficiency certificate by 24 January 2024, 3.00 p.m. Finnish time. Read more from the top of this page (Who can apply? -> International UAS Exam: English language requirements) .

Identification documents

You need a valid, acceptable identification document to be able to participate in the International UAS Exam. The passport/identity card has to be valid until 21 March 2024. The following documents are accepted as a proof of identity with no exceptions:

  • Submit the number of your passport to the application form by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.
  • Attach the cover and information pages to your application form by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

  • Attach a copy of both sides of the card to your application form by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

If the information you submit is incorrect or you do not submit the required information to the application by the set date, you cannot participate to the exam.

Certificate-based selection

  • The results of the certificate-based selection will be published by 27 May 2024 at the latest.
  • If you want to have a chance to be selected by both certificate-based selection and international UAS Exam, you must participate to the UAS Exam which is held before the results of the certificate-based selection are published.
  • Those selected in certificate-based selection do not need to provide an English language proficiency certificate.

Finnish Matriculation examination

This selection method is used in the following degree programmes:

  • International Business
  • Nursing
  • Tourism Management
  • Purchasing and Logistics Engineering

The certificate-based selection concerns applicants who have completed or will complete during the spring of applying:

  • the Finnish matriculation examination (in Finland)
  • International Baccalaureate diploma (IB)
  • European Baccalaureate diploma (EB)
  • Reifeprüfung (RP) diploma (in Finland) or 
  • Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) diploma (in Finland).   

Admission is based on the points awarded from matriculation examination.

Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification

This selection method is used only in degree programme in Nursing.

  • Finnish (completed in Finland) vocational upper secondary qualifications completed after 1 August 2015 are taken into account in certificate-based selection.
  • Competence-based qualifications are not taken into account in certificate-based selection.

Admission is based on the points awarded from vocational upper secondary qualification.

Interview: 120 ECTS credits of BBA Studies (International Business)

This selection method concerns ONLY Jamk's International Business.

This admission method concerns applicants who are completing or have completed (within 5 years) 120 ECTS credits of BBA Studies (bachelor’s level studies in Business Administration):

  • in the International EBP Bachelor programme of Kedge Business School France and has chosen Jamk as the partner university, OR
  • in Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), India:
    An applicant from the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme with a specialization in Entrepreneurship and Business Analytics OR Business Analytics and Digital Marketing, offered by The Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM), under The Faculty of Commerce and Management of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangalore, India OR
  • in Middle East College, Oman: An applicant from the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business Administration (General Management) programme at Middle East College, Muscat, Oman.

The applicants must have begun their studies (the first enrolment as an attending student) in autumn 2019 or later.

Applicants with 120 ECTS credits completed in higher education institution approved by Jamk, must attach transcript of records to the online application:

  • 90 credits completed by 24 January 2024 at 3.00 pm Finnish time,
  • total 120 credits completed by 11 July 2024 at 3.00 pm Finnish time.

Please notice that applicants applying with 120 ECTS credits BBA level studies must also fulfill the general entry requirements for eligibility (senior secondary degree). Those selected based on 120 ECTS credits do not need to provide an English language proficiency certificate.

Interview

All eligible applicants who have demonstrated their eligibility will be invited to the interview.

  • The online interview will be held from February 2024 onwards.
  • The applicant must score at least 40/100 points from the interview in order to pass the interview and have a chance to be admitted for the programme.

Online course and interview: Information and Communication Technology

Students will be selected to Information and Communication Technology on the basis of the points awarded for an online course and interview. Applicant participates and completes an online course in English at Jamk's Open UAS.

  • The Databases online course is part of degree programme's curriculum.
  • The online course must be completed individually.
  • The English language skills will be tested at the online course. It is NOT necessary to submit an English language proficiency certificate for this application option.
  • Information and Communication Technology & Business Information Technology have separate online courses which do not co-operate. If you apply to both programmes, you will complete two online courses.
  •  If you have already completed the online course, you must complete it again for joint application of spring 2024.

Applying, step-by-step:

1. Apply in joint application of spring 2024

  • Apply to Information and Communication Technology on Studyinfo.fi during joint application period 3 - 17 January 2024 by 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

2. Participate to online course

  • Applicants with valid joint application form for Information and Communication Technology will be automatically registered to the open UAS online course.
  • The online course begins on 30 January 2024 and ends on 22 March 2024.
  • You must score a minimum 50 out of 100 points from the course (the course and exam must be completed with certain minimum points, read more on the course platform).

3. Participate to interview

  • After the online course at least 150 applicants with highest points are invited to an online interview.
  • The interview is individual.
  • The interviews are held during the weeks 14-15 (1 - 12 April 2024).
  • You must score a minimum of 30 out of 60 points of the interview.

Online course and interview: Business Information Technology

Students will be selected to Business Information Technology on the basis of the points awarded for an online course and interview. Applicant participates and completes an online course in English at Jamk's Open UAS, which is scored.

  • The online course is part of degree programme's curriculum.
  • The online course must be completed individually.
  • It is NOT necessary to submit an English language proficiency certificate for this application option.
  • Business Information Technology & Information and Communication Technology programmes have separate online courses which do not co-operate. If you apply to both programmes, you will complete two online courses.
  •  If you have already completed the online course, you must complete it again for joint application of spring 2024.

Applying, step-by-step:

1. Apply in joint application of spring 2024

  • Apply to Business Information Technology on Studyinfo.fi during joint application period 3 - 17 January 2024 by 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

2. Participate to online course

  • Applicants with valid joint application form for Business Information Technology will be automatically registered to the open UAS online course.
  • The online course begins on 29 January 2024 and ends on 24 March 2024.
  • You must score a minimum 20 out of 60 points from the course (the course and exam must be completed with certain minimum points, read more on the course platform).

3. Participate to group interview

  • After the online course at least 150 applicants with highest points are invited to an online group interview. 
  • Spoken and written language are tested during interview.
  • The interview is held during weeks 14-15 (1 - 12 April 2024). 
  • You must score a minimum of 20 out of 40 points of the interview. Interview's written part must be completed with minimum points that are announced in the interview.

Accept the study place

If you have been admitted to a study programme, you will receive a notification to your email.

  • You must accept the offered study place by 11 July 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time  OR according to your personal deadline, stated on Studyinfo.fi. Otherwise you will lose the study place. 
  • You can accept only one study place per academic term.
  • Accepting a study place is a binding choice that cannot be cancelled or changed later.
  • When you accept a study place, all your other study place offers are cancelled.
  • You cannot be accepted to other programmes starting in the same academic term after you have accepted a study place.
  • You can be accepted from waiting list until 30 July 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time, in case there are available study places.

Enroll for attendance / non-attendance

In addition of accepting the offer of admission, enroll for attendance by 11 July 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time, according to the e-mail instructions. Non-enrollment (both for attendance and non-attendance) leads to loss of study entitlement.

Students may enroll as non-attending students in the first year only if they are:

  • completing their military or civil service in accordance with the Conscription Act, Non-Military Service Act or Act on Women's Voluntary Military Service
  • on maternity, paternity or parental leave
  • incapable of commencing the studies due to personal illness or disability.

The absence must be verified with official documents during the enrollment period at Student Services. If the documents are insufficient or are not delivered during the enrollment period, the student will be registered as attending.

Tuition fees and scholarships

The tuition fee must be paid by 11 July 2024 at 3.00 p.m. Finnish time. ​​​Applicants who are required to pay the tuition fee will receive the admission letter and instructions how to pay the tuition fee for the first year. 

If you are exempted from paying the tuition fee (see further information from the link below) please attach a copy of your valid passport or national ID card where your citizenship is indicated, and/or a copy of the exempting document to the online application form.

Start the residence permit application procedure

Non-EU/EEA students need a student residence permit for studying in Finland. The residence permits are granted by the Finnish Immigration Service.  You can find detailed information and advice on the residence permit requirements and procedures on the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) website.

Start your residence permit process as soon as possible, carefully following the immigration authorities' instructions and regulations, so that you can receive your permit before your studies begin! Please note, that the residence permit application process might take over two months.

Please note that Jamk does not process the residence permit applications nor can give any advice or guidance regarding the application process. Please contact Finnish Migration Service in all issues regarding this matter.

Appeal

If you are not satisfied with the student admission decision, please contact Jamk Admission Services by e-mail. If the student admission decision is still not reasonable, you may submit an appeal within 14 days of receiving the notification of the decision (sent by e-mail).

Appeal based on personal circumstances (difficult life situation, misunderstanding, health reasons) and so on will not be considered as valid reasons for appeal.

Student admission decision can be changed only if it is clearly shown that Jamk has not followed the student admission criteria. Therefore, the appeal must be well-grounded and it should contain accurate information on where the Jamk has not followed the criteria.
