How to apply for Bachelor’s Degrees

The instructions below concern spring joint application period 4 - 18 January 2023 at 3.00 pm Finnish time for Jamk's Bachelor's Degree Programmes conducted in English.

Sledding students

General entry requirements

Eligibility to apply for higher education studies can be obtained with:

  • the studies required for graduating from the Finnish upper secondary school and Matriculation Examination (or only the Finnish upper secondary school)
  • a Finnish vocational qualification, further information at studyinfo.fi
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) degree, Reifeprüfung (RP) degree, Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) degree or European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma 
  • a Finnish vocational college diploma or higher vocational diploma
  • foreign degree/qualification which gives eligibility for higher education in the awarding country.
  • higher education degree (bachelor's level or master's level)

You can apply even if your high school/senior secondary school degree certificate is completed during the spring of applying. It is NOT necessary to provide a language proficiency certificate. The English language skills will be tested at the entrance examinations/online course. 

Please notice that entrance examinations/online course will be held before we have checked your eligibility. It’s possible to be participated for the exams/online course even if you are not eligible (if you have not attached eligible degree certificate(s) to the application) and thus cannot be admitted as a degree student.

The admission is conditional until the university of applied sciences has checked applicant’s final school certificates. The UAS may cancel the admission if an applicant fails to submit certificates by the specified deadline, or if an applicant has provided false information. 

Discretionary Admission

Jamk uses also discretionary admission if your qualifications does not meet the above mentioned requirements: If you do not have senior secondary degree certificate / higher education qualification / you are not graduating this spring, you can apply for discretionary admission.

Based on the documents of prior education submitted to the online application/result of the International UAS Exam (ICT & Business Information Technology: online course), Jamk UAS decides if you are eligible to be accepted as our student via student selection process. 

  1. Submit the online application form normally at www.studyinfo.fi during 4 - 18 January 2023 by 3:00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+2).
    • Contact to Jamk's Admission Services by email during application period.
  2. Attach your documents to the online application form by 25 January 2023 by 3:00 p.m. (UTC+2): possible final school certificates (or transcript of records if you are not graduated yet) and official translations of documents, if required.
  3. (No motivation letter or additional forms are required for Jamk UAS.)
  4. Participate normally for entrance examinations (ICT & Business Information Technology: online course).

Please notice that the discretionary admission decision can be made also after you have participated for exams/online course. In case you have applied for discretionary admission for other universities of applied sciences, please contact them as well during application time. Other UAS's might require additional forms or information concerning your educational background.

Refugees

If you are a refugee or in a refugee-like situation and the qualifications you have obtained cannot be proven through documentary evidence, the UAS' concerned can still invite you to the entrance examination.

In this case you must prove the refugee status by a decision made by a competent authority and send a copy of the decision (a decision on asylum or a residence permit granted on the basis of a need for protection) to the admission services by 25 January 2023 by 3.00 pm Finnish time at the latest.

In addition, please request a Verification of Educational Background form from Admission services in case you do not have your original degree certificates. Fill in the form and return it to all of the Admission services of the UAS's you are applying for.
 

Application

You can apply for 6 different degree programmes with the same application form. In the first joint application of the spring you do not have to place the programmes in order of preference on the application form. You can be accepted to 6 different degree programmes, but you can accept only one.

Please notice, that you can submit only one application form. Only the application submitted the latest will be taken into consideration!  If you submit several, only the latest will be taken into consideration and all others will be deleted. 

We strongly recommend you to fill in your own application form. After submitting the application, you will receive a confirmation email to the address you have given on the application form. Please check your email and also your spam email folder regularly.

Attachments: foreign degrees (degrees completed outside Finland)

Submit the requested attachments directly to the online application form (e.g. as pdf/jpg/png -files). The attachments must be submitted/returned by 25 January 2023 by 3:00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+2) at the latest:

  • copies of the original final degree certificate (senior secondary school/high school/higher education qualification)
  • authorised translation of the certificate if needed (in English, Finnish or Swedish, the translation must have the translators' signature and stamp), copy is enough
  • Copy of a valid passport
  • Non-EU/EAA citizens: If applicable, copy of a document which exempts you from paying the tuition fee

If you have already graduated, UAS' accept only the final certificates awarded by national and regional bodies granting educational certificates. Various other documents such as "Testimonials", "Statements of Results", or "Result Slips" are not considered as official certificates without the final certificate.

You are able to apply even if your degree certificate is completed during the spring of applying (senior secondary/high school certificate). Please, attach a copy of your transcript of records (and official translation) to the online application form by 25 January 2023 by 3:00 p.m. Finnish time. Your admission is conditional until the UAS has checked your final degree certificates.

Be prepared to complete your documents. In case some of the requested documents are missing, we will request the missing file via e-mail.

Your admission is conditional until the UAS has checked your final degree certificates. The qualification used in the application process must be completed during the summer time. In addition, the final original degree certificate will be checked at the Student Sevices at the beginning of studies. The final deadline to present the original final certificates is 31 August 2023.

Attachments: degrees completed in Finland

Check the list from our Finnish website "Hakuohjeet englanninkielisiin AMK-tutkintoihin" or UASinfo.fi. The application system will guide you about the needed attachments when you fill in a application.

Attachments: International Baccalaureate, Reifeprüfung, Deutsche Internationale Abitur or European Baccalaureate

If you graduate during the spring and apply with International Baccalaureate (IB)/European Baccalaureate (EB) degree, please attach your predicted grades or the final grades of Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) degree to the online application form by 6 April 2023 by 3:00 p.m. Finnish time.

Selection methods and available study places

At Jamk, there is no selection based to the degree certificate used for applying in the first application period of spring. Thus, academic performance of the former degree/qualification does not affect to the student selection. It is also not necessary to provide a language proficiency certificate by the set date. The English language skills are assessed in the entrance examination/online course.

International UAS Exam

International UAS online Entrance examination concerns Jamk's International Business, Tourism Management, Nursing, Purchasing and Logistics Engineering & Automation and Robotics.

  1. The online entrance examination's first part/written part will be organised on 8 February 2023.
  2. The second part/online group interview will be during 6 - 17 March 2023.

The entrance examination assesses the applicants’ abilities to study in universities of applied sciences. The entrance examination does not contain any pre-reading materials or pre-tasks. In order to be invited to the second phase group interview, you have to pass all the exam sections.

Applicant must score minimum points in order to be selected for admission. The final student selection is made on the basis of the written exam and the group interview.

Individual arrangements in International UAS Exam

If, due to disability, disease, dyslexia or some other specific reason, you need individual arrangements during the entrance exam (e.g. additional time, tasks without pictures for applicants using a screen reader), you have to fill in a written request for individual arrangements.

Online course and interview for Information and Communication Technology

Students will be selected to the Jamk's degree programme in Information and Communication Technology on the basis of the points awarded for an online course and interview. Applicant participates and completes an online course in English at Jamk's Open UAS, which is scored. The Databases online course is part of degree programme's curriculum. 

Applying, step-by-step:

  1. Apply for Information and Communication Technology on Studyinfo.fi during joint application period 4 - 18 January 2023 by 3.00 pm Finnish time.
  2. Applicants applied in the joint application with valid application to the degree programme in question will be automatically registered for the open UAS online course.
  3. The online course begins on 6 February 2023 and ends on 31 March 2023.
  4. After the online course maximum of 100 applicants with highest points will be invited to the online interview. The interview will be implemented individually. The interview will be held during the weeks 15-16 (11 - 21 April 2023).

Total scoring:

  • Online course maximum of 60 points (the course must be accepted, min 30 points).
  • Interview maximum of 40 points (min 20 points).

Business Information Technology & Information and Communication Technology programmes have their own online courses, which do not co-operate. If you apply for both programmes, you will accomplish two separate online courses.

Online course and interview for Business Information Technology

Students will be selected to the Jamk's degree programme in Business Information Technology on the basis of the points awarded for an online course and interview. Applicant participates and completes an online course in English at Jamk's Open UAS, which is scored. The online course is part of degree programme's curriculum. 

Applying, step-by-step:

  1. Apply for Business Information Technology on Studyinfo.fi during joint application period 4 - 18 January 2023 by 3.00 pm Finnish time.
  2. Applicants applied in the joint application with valid application to the degree programme in question will be automatically registered for the open UAS online course.
  3. The online course begins on 6 February 2023 and ends on 31 March 2023.
  4. After the online course maximum of 100 applicants with highest points will be invited to the online group interview. The interview will be held during weeks 15-16 (11 - 21 April 2023). Spoken and written language will be tested during interview.

Total scoring:

  • Online course maximum of 60 points (the course must be accepted, min 20 points).
  • Interview maximum of 40 points (min 20 points).

Business Information Technology & Information and Communication Technology programmes have their own online courses, which do not co-operate. If you apply for both programmes, you will accomplish two separate online courses.

Admissions from waiting list

You can be admitted from waiting list until 1 August 2023 at 3.00 p.m (2022: 2 August 2022 at 3.00 p.m.) Finnish time, in case the programme you have applied from has available study places. If you have been admitted from waiting list, you will receive a notification of this to your email. You must accept the offer of admission by the given deadline, or you will lose your offer.

One study place per term provision

A student may accept only one study place leading to a higher education degree in Finland in education that begins in the same academic term.

Appeal

Appeal can be made, if applicant can demonstrate satisfactorily that an error was made by the authority in the university of applied sciences in evaluation of the applicant according to the rules and regulations of the admission process.

Appeal based on personal circumstances (difficult life situation, misunderstanding, health reasons) or e.g. possible errors made by post offices and so on will not be considered as valid reasons for appeal. Student admission decision can be changed only in those cases where it is clearly shown that the UAS has not followed the student admission criteria. Therefore, the appeal must be well-grounded and it should contain accurate information on where the UAS has not followed the criteria.

Applicants not satisfied with the decision may appeal in writing to the address below within 14 days of receiving the notification of the decision (the email). The notification date of the decision (the date on this letter) is not included in the 14-day appeal period. The UAS is not responsible of possible delays in postal delivery and therefore, the above mentioned time frame applies even if the post is not received within the mentioned time frame.
