Tourism Management, Bachelor of Hospitality Management

The Tourism Management programme will provide you with a detailed understanding of responsible and sustainable tourism. In addition, you will enhance your competences in experience design, digitalization, and profitable business. Studying at Jamk's Tourism Management programme will prepare you for the international tourism industry while you get to study in English with students from all around the world. Study Contents

During your studies, you will get solid theoretical knowledge which you will apply into practice in varied working life projects, event productions, and practical trainings. You will learn valuable working life skills such as problem solving, communication, research and development, entrepreneurship, and time management.

Your personal learning plan will guide you during your studies towards your career goals. You will have many possibilities to orient your studies by choosing elective courses, working in collaborative projects, joining study tours in Finland and abroad, getting meaningful practical training placements, and writing your thesis. You will also have great opportunities to improve your knowledge and competences abroad by going for international exchange or doing practical trainings.

First Year

During the first academic year, you will learn the basics of business and the operating environment of the tourism industry. General transferable skills, such as language and communication skills, entrepreneurship skills, and ICT skills will also develop during the first year of studies. 

You will also get an understanding of sustainability and responsibility in the tourism industry. You will discuss your career goals with a tutor and build a personal learning plan to guide you towards your dream job.

Second Year

During the second year, you will advance your competences in the tourism core studies. You will study topics like economic responsibility, experience design, and tourism research while deepening your know-how in tourism management. 

You can select various professional courses to deepen your understanding in specific industry fields such as the hotel business, international congresses, or leisure events.

Third Year

During the third and fourth year, your studies will improve your innovation and development competences. 

You will deepen your knowledge in technological solutions concerning tourism, responsible business planning, and destination level management. You will complete your educational path with your thesis process.

As a respected educational organization focusing on responsible tourism, we work closely together with our various stakeholders locally and globally in order to change the industry into a more sustainable direction. By educating future professionals, Jamk renews the tourism business in an innovative and responsible manner. At Jamk UAS, we work closely together with various stakeholders such as Destination Management Organizations, Visit Finland, other education and research organizations, as well as business partners. We implement projects and do research as part of various networks, and we also coordinate the International Centre for Responsible Tourism's Finnish network.

International Study Path and Network Abroad

The tourism and hospitality business is international by its very nature. In addition to our own studies in Jamk, you can utilise our extensive international cooperation networks (over 50 international institutions) and complete a part of your studies or your practical training abroad. During the study abroad period, you will have the possibility to increase your professional know-how, improve your personal knowledge and skills, and get to know different languages and cultures. You will also make new friends and create worldwide networks that can improve chances of employment after graduation.

Starting your studies through Open University Route Studies

Did you not get admitted to study in the Tourism Management degree programme when applying? 

No problem! You can start your studies in Jamk's Open University Route Studies.

In the Route Studies, you will study first-year Tourism Management degree studies. Studying takes place in the same group with degree students. Route Studies allow you to earn enough credits to apply via the open university route and get admitted to the degree studies even without an entrance examination.

In 2024, the enrolment period for Jamk's Route Studies is 1 August to 8 August 2024. Study places are filled in order of registration.

Tuition fees and scholarships

Read about the tuition fee and scholarship policy of Jamk UAS. The tuition fee for bachelor's degrees per academic year is 10 000€. The tuition fee for master's degrees per academic year is 12 000€. Scholarship available under certain conditions.
