Applying as a degree student for bachelor’s degrees via Open Study Path, spring 2018

One can apply through the Open Study Path to all JAMK’s Bachelor's Degree programmes conducted in English:

• International Business
• International Logistics
• Nursing

Anyone who has completed at least 55 ECTS credits worth of Open Studies in a Finnish UAS (by 20 June 2018) that can be recognized as part of the degree programme may apply via Open Study Path to become a degree student (check the more detailed requirements below). Note, that the degree programmme in Nursing only accepts open studies that have been completed at JAMK Open UAS. 

Studies completed in higher education institutions outside Finland are not accepted!

If you have completed Open Studies in Finnish language, it is possible to apply via Open Study path to JAMK's degree programmes conducted in Finnish as well. More information at avoimen amkin väylä -pages.

Requirements for JAMK Open Study Path in a nutshell: 

  • Complete 20 credits out of the 55 credits by 28 March 2018
  • Complete three credits worth of compulsory language studies (Swedish / English) by 20 June 2018 (included in the 55 ECTS credits)
  • Applying for International Logistics? Complete a mathematics course worth at least 5 ECTS credits by 20 June 2018 (included in the 55 ECTS credits) 
  • Complete altogether at least 55 ECTS credits that can be recognized as part of the degree programme by 20 June 2018

Notice also, that there can be only 10 ECTS credits worth of elective studies, and only 20  ECTS credits can be accredited of the 55 credits.

If you have completed your open studies prior to 2016, please check that you have the needed language studies (and for Logistics a mathematics course) at your transcript of records! If not, please contact the staff at JAMK Open Studies to learn about the possibilities to complete the missing course by 20 June 2018.

Application as a degree student through Open Study Path is done via a separate application form (link below). 

In addition to Open Study Path, an applicant can also apply via joint application  to try to gain an admission. So, if you have completed 55 ECTS credits in a Finnish open university of applied sciences and you have an eligibility to higher education studies in Finland, you can fill both application forms. Open Study Path - student selection for International Business and International Logistics

Concerning International Business and International Logistics the selection is based on the completed Open Studies, so one does not have to take part in the normal student selection process (joint application system) or participate in an entrance examination.

Students are selected based on the Open Studies grade point average (checked from open UAS transcript of records) in case there more are more applicants than available study places. 

The results of the student selection are announced in beginning of June. Please remember that your admission is conditional until relevant certificates have been checked. The UAS withdraws the admission if an applicant is unable to show a transcript of records that proves one has completed 55 ECTS credits degree programme’s studies in Finnish open university of applied sciences by 20 June 2018.

Attachments

If you have completed your open studies at JAMK's Open UAS it is not necessary to send a transcript of records by 28 March 2018 to JAMK's admission services, we will check your open studies directly from ASIO system. Remember that you need to have at least 20 ECTS credits (open studies) by 28 March in ASIO.

However, if you have completed your studies in some other Open UAS than JAMK, in this case, send your transcript of records by 28 March 2018, 3 pm, to JAMK's Admission Services. It is possible to attach your transcript of records to the application form, but you can also send it by post or email (admissions(at)jamk.fi) after you have filled the application. The transcript must be stamped by the UAS if you have completed the studies in some other Open UAS than JAMK. 

As a clarification, by 28 March it is not necessary to have all the 55 ECTS credits completed (only 20 ECTS credits). The transcript is also needed to check the grade point average if there are more applicants than available study places (check the intake per programme above).

Notice! It is not necessary to provide an English Language Proficiency certificate while applying via Open Study Path.

55 ECTS credits by 20 June 2018

If you have completed your open studies at JAMK's Open UAS it's not necessary to send the final transcript of records by 20 June 2018, you can just send us an email (admissions(at)jamk.fi) to notify us when the 55 ECTS credits are marked in ASIO. Thus, we can check the studies directly from ASIO. At this point you must have 55 ECTS credits of open studies that can be recognized as part of the degree programme. JAMK will withdraw the admission if an applicant has not completed the required open studies by 20 June 2018.

However, if you have completed your studies some other UAS than JAMK, in this case, send your transcript of records by 20 June 2018, 3 pm, to JAMK's Admission Services. The transcript must include 55 ECTS credits of open studies that can be recognized as part of the degree programme. JAMK will withdraw the admission if an applicant has not completed the required open studies by 20 June 2018.

Accepting the study place

The student selection is announced around beginning of June and the offered study place must be confirmed by 10 July 2018. 

Accreditation of courses

If you gain admission as a degree student to JAMK, you may apply accreditation (AHOT) of the courses you have completed via open studies. All accreditation decisions are based on the degree's curriculum, accreditation is always decided by the receiving UAS.

Open Study Path - student selection for Nursing

Notice, that degree programme in Nursing accepts only open studies that have been completed at JAMK’s open UAS.

If you are planning to apply as a degree student for the Degree Programme in Nursing via Open Study Path one does not have to take part in the normal student selection process (joint application system), but one needs to participate for an entrance examination. After JAMK has checked the transcript (from ASIO), one will receive an invitation for the entrance exam with detailed instructions. The invitations for entrance exam are sent around the end of March 2018. More information about the required attachments below.

Regarding the entrance examination, almost all the same guidelines concern applicants applying via Open Study Path and applicants via joint application system. The exception is that an applicant needs to receive at least 45 points out of 70 points from the entrance examination in order to gain admission. The entrance examination is organized 10 April 2018. The results of the student selection is announced around beginning of June. Please remember that your admission is conditional until relevant information have been checked. The UAS withdraws the admission if an applicant is unable to have the required 55 ECTS credits completed in Open UAS by 20 June 2018. Nursing courses completed in any other open UAS than JAMK are not accepted.

Attachments

Since you have completed your open studies at JAMK's Open UAS it is not necessary to send a transcript of records by 28 March 2018 to JAMK's Admission Services, we will check your open studies directly from ASIO system. The requirments is that you need to have at least 20 ECTS credits by 28 March.

Notice that, only applicants who have completed Open Studies at JAMK's open UAS in the degree programme in Nursing are eligible to apply and will be invited for the entrance exam.

Tuition fees and scholarships at JAMK 2018

Tuition fee for non-EU/EEA citizens is 8 000 €/year for the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Nursing, International Logistics and International Business. For Master's degree in International Business Management tuition fee is 9000 €/year. Tuition fees also concerns applicants who apply via Open Study Path.

If you get an admission via Open Study path, in the first academic year the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee in Bachelor's degree programmes. The scholarship application is filled as a part of the application form of Open Study Path. The results of student selection are announced in beginning of June. The deadline to accept the study place and the deadline to pay the invoice of the tuition fee is 10 July 2018. In the following academic years the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee if a student earns at least 55 credits per academic year in Bachelor's degree programmes.

Applying as a degree student for master’s degrees via Open Study Path

This selection criteria concerns one Master’s degree degree programme at JAMK: Master’s degree programme in International Business Management.

Thus, it is not possible to apply via Open Study Path to a Master’s Degree in Cyber Security.

Notice! The Open Study Path for master’s degree does not exempt applicants from the degree and work experience requirements. Consequently, all applicants applying via Open Study Path still need to have a bachelor's level degree in the field of business and administration (or other equivalent degree), and at least three years (36 months) of relevant work experience gained after the bachelor's degree.

Anyone who fulfills the degree and work requirements and who has completed at least 30 credits (ECTS) worth of Open Studies (by 20 June 2018) that can be recognized as part of the degree programme, may apply to become a degree student for International Business Management via Open Study Path.

Notice, out of the 30 credits completed at open UAS, twenty credits must be completed at JAMK’s open UAS (10 credits can be completed in any Finnish Open UAS in a corresponding programme).

The selection is based on the Open Studies, so one does not have to take part in the normal student selection process (joint application system) or participate to an entrance examination. The student selection is based on grade point average of the Open Studies in case there are more applicants than available study places.

Attachments

If you have completed your open studies at JAMK's Open UAS it's not necessary to send a transcript of records by 28 March 2018 to JAMK's admission services, we will check your open studies directly from ASIO system.

If you have a bachelor's degree which is not completed in a Finnish UAS/University and/or your work experience is completed outside Finland you need to send the following documents to JAMK’s Admission Services by 28 March:
• an official open UAS transcript of records (stamped by the UAS)
• a copy of the bachelor’s degree certificate
• copies of work certificates (minimum requirement 3 years) after the bachelor’s degree

Notice! It is possible to attach the documents to the application form. However, you may also send them by post or email after you have filled the application form. Contact information can be found at the end of this page. 

As a clarification, by 28 March it is not necessary to have all the 30 ECTS credits completed. The transcript is checked to identify the grade point average if there are more applicants than available study places (check the intake above). Only those applicant’s applications will be processed who have completed studies in open UAS in Finland, and fill the degree and work experience requirements, thus are eligible.

If you receive an admission letter, the next step is to send the final transcript of records by 20 June 2018 to JAMK's Admission Services. However, if you have completed the Open Studies at JAMK you can just notify us by sending an email (admissions(at)jamk.fi) after the 30 ECTS credits have been marked in ASIO. If you have completed the studies in another UAS than JAMK, the transcript must include 30 ECTS credits of open studies that can be recognized as part of the degree programme. JAMK will withdraw the admission if an applicant has not completed the required studies by 20 June 2018.

Accepting the study place

The student selection is announced around beginning of June and the offered study place must be confirmed by 10 July 2018. 

Accreditation of courses

If you gain admission as a degree student to JAMK, you may apply accreditation (AHOT) of the courses you have completed via open studies. All accreditation decisions are based on the degree's curriculum. You may apply accreditation of the courses completed at JAMK’s Open Studies, but also in other universities of applied sciences (as explained above, max 10 credits out of 30 credits). Accreditation is always decided by the receiving UAS.

Tuition fee for non-EU/EEA citizens is 9 000 €/year for the Master’s degree programmes in International Business Management. More information concerning who is required to pay the fees and about the scholarship programme.

The One-Place-Per-Student Provision

A student may accept only one study place leading to a higher education degree during one academic term.

• Higher education degrees are Bachelor degrees and Master degrees awarded by universities, and Bachelor degrees and Master degrees awarded by polytechnics/UAS.
• The academic term (from 1 August to 31 December OR 1 January to 31 July) is the set framework for implementation.
• Even if the student postpones the starting of studies for one year, or interrupts his/her studies, that student cannot accept another study place for a degree programme starting in the same academic term.

Appeal

Appeal can be made, if the applicant can prove satisfactorily that an error was made by the authority in the university of applied sciences in evaluation of the applicant according to the rules and regulations of the admission process. Student admission decision can be changed only in those cases where it is clearly shown that the UAS has not followed the student admission criteria. Therefore, the appeal must be well-grounded and it should contain accurate information on where the UAS has not followed the criteria.

Applicants not satisfied with the decision may appeal in writing to the address below within 14 days of receiving the notification of the decision.
