Tourism Management, Bachelor of Hospitality Management

Tourism Management programme will provide a detailed understanding of responsible and sustainable tourism in addition to enhancing students' business competence for working in the international tourism industry. The entire programme is conducted in English!  Join us, your future starts here!

Study contents

The studies combine solid theoretical knowledge with diverse working life projects, event production, and international study tours. The students utilise our extensive international cooperation networks and complete a part of their studies or their practical training abroad. The Bachelor’s degree of Finnish universities of applied sciences is based on the needs of working life. It provides the graduates with a higher education degree and a professional qualification. The scope of bachelor’s degree programmes is generally 210 ECTS credits, and their completion usually takes about 3,5 years.

First year

During the first academic year, the student learns the basics of business and the operating environment of the tourism industry. General transferable skills, such as language and communication skills, research and development competence, entrepreneurship skills and ICT skills also develop during the first and second year of studies.

Second year

In the second year of studies, the student advances his/her competence in core studies in tourism.  International exchange or practical training abroad are included in the studies due to the international character of the industry.

Third year

Studies in the third year emphasise innovation and development competence and deepening the professional understanding in the student’s area of special expertise.

How to apply in January

Short step-by-step instructions on how to apply.

1. Application time 4 – 18 January 2023 by 3.00 pm on Studyinfo.fi

You can apply with upper secondary school certificate or with a higher education certificate. You can also apply even if your secondary school degree certificate is completed during the spring of applying (high school / senior secondary school certificate). Jamk uses also discretionary admission.

Apply online 4 - 18 January 2023 by 3.00 pm Finnish time (UTC+2) on studyinfo.fi.

2. Deadline for the enclosures 25 January 2023 by 3.00 pm

The required enclosures need to be attached to the online application form by 25 January 2023 by 3.00 pm Finnish time (e.g. as pdf/jpg/png -files).

3. International UAS Exam

All applicants are selected by International UAS Exam.

  1. The online entrance examination's (International UAS Exam) first part/written part will be organised on 8 February 2023.
  2. The second part/online group interview will be during 6 - 17 March 2023.

The entrance examination assesses the applicants’ abilities to study in universities of applied sciences. The entrance examination does not contain any pre-reading materials or pre-tasks. In order to be invited to the second phase group interview, you have to pass all the exam sections and reach the field-specific cut-off score. Applicant must score minimum points in order to be selected for admission.

Identification documents

You must submit your identification document on the Studyinfo’s application form no later than 25 January 2023 at 3:00 pm Finnish time (UTC+2). If your first phase of the International UAS Exam (written examination) is approved but you do not submit a valid identification document by the given date, you will be rejected from the second phase (group interview).

The following documents are accepted as proof of identity:

  • passport
  • Finnish identity card with a photo, issued by police (in Finland)
  • Finnish driver’s licence (issued in Finland)
  • another EU/ETA country identity card with a photo

4. Results and accepting the study place

Results are announced end of March at the earliest and on 2 June 2023, at the latest.

Please,

  1. accept the study place on studyinfo.fi
  2. enrol for attendance/non-attendance on studyinfo.fi
  3. NON-EU/EEA citizens: pay the tuition fee payment as soon as possible
  4. start the residence permit (if needed) application process immediately in April to be able to start your studies in August. The residence permit application process might take time over 2 months, so be in time!

The final deadline to accept the study place, enrol for attendance and pay the possible tuition fee is 14 July 2023 by 3:00 pm Finnish time. There are no tuition fees for Finnish or other EU/EEA citizens.

Studies will begin in the middle of August 2023. Please, arrive to Jyväskylä, Finland by that time!

The tuition fee concerns non-EU/EEA degree students who study in English-taught Bachelor's or Master's degree programme. Scholarship available.
