The co-implemented master's degree programme in advanced practice nursing in China on the move

Jamk University of Applied Sciences and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM) have signed agreement in 2024 on cooperation in health care field, which concerns the Jamk’s master degree programme in Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) in cooperation with SJTUSM. SJTUSM is one of top-ranked universities in China and a renown higher education institution with world-wide recognition in medical and health sciences.

In accordance with the agreement between Jamk and SJTUSM, this APN master is a Made-to-order education programme conducted in a co-implemented way:

  • The total duration of the APN programme is 120 ECTS (see Figure 1) targeted for master’s degree from Jamk.
  • The programme is designed to be implemented in 2 years for full-time blended learning: first year at SJTUSM in Shanghai, China, and second year at Jamk in Finland.
  • 87 ECTS of the whole programme is taught and granted by Jamk staff.
  • The pedagogical execution is based on Jamk’s curriculum design in light to the master’s degree regulation and other related guidelines.

The first enrollment of this APN master programme was successfully completed in autumn 2024 and the pilot group successfully started in early January 2025. At present, the pilot group has been studying the first year of the programme in accordance with the co-implemented curriculum and received enthusiastic responses and drew positive attention from all parties.

Recruitment of the second cohort of this APN master programme has been officially launched at the beginning of May 2025, now progressing with full speed. Jamk and SJTUSM set the timeline for the second cohort as the following:

  • Online application from 1 May to 6 September
  • Entrance examination in Shanghai in Mid-September
  • Selection and admission of qualified applicants in October
  • New student enrollment in early November
  • Opening of the second cohort by 7 November 2025
