Digitalising world needs skilled minds

ICT (Information and Communications Technology) skills have a high demand today.
Information and communication technology is a fundamental part of our modern society. Digitalisation, automation and intelligent systems are transforming the way we work, and how organisations operate. An increasing number of services, business models and innovations rely on secure and reliable ICT solutions: devices require access to the Internet, physical services are replaced by internet-based electronic services, and AI has become a non replaceable part of various actions.

As our lives and organisations are more and more dependent on ICT solutions, it is critical that we will have new experts who are able to apply new technologies to various innovations and make sure that these digital services are produced in secure manner.

In the Degree Programme in Information and Communications Technology, you will learn how to build and utilise information technology in a digitalised and automated society. The studies provide you with the skills to design, develop and test ICT solutions that meet real working-life needs, while preparing you to operate in international and multidisciplinary environments.

Key learning outcomes

As an ICT engineer, you will have strong competence in both software development and information technology. You understand the principles of software engineering from requirements specification to implementation and testing, and you are familiar with the full software development lifecycle. You are familiar with programming logic and common algorithms, and you are able to use design, version control and documentation tools.

During your studies, you will also gain an understanding of computer systems, operating systems and communication networks. You know how to design and maintain networks, servers and databases, and utilise cloud services for business needs. You will also learn how to process, analyze and visualize data efficiently.

Through optional studies, you can deepen your expertise in selected areas and develop into a specialist of your choice, with strong readiness for continuous professional growth, entrepreneurship and international working life.

I have been consistently surprised at how useful my social-science background has been in my studies. There is a misconception that IT work is entirely technical. This could not be further from the truth. The ICT programme’s emphasis on practical engineering means students have the opportunity to develop skills in a range of interesting settings.
