Borrowing rules in brief (pdf)

Overdue and unreturned loans, borrowing block

  • For overdue loans we send out overdue notices by email.
  • We collect fines on items that are returned or renewed after their due date.
  • If your course book loans or reference book loans are late for 3 days, you will be blocked from borrowing.
  • If your other loans are late for 7 days, or your sheet music loans are late for 21 days, you will be blocked from borrowing.
  • The borrowing block is removed when you return all the overdue loans and pay all the overdue fines (5€ per item). If you have more than 50 euros on overdue fines, you will be blocked from borrowing. The block is removed when you pay the fines (50€ max).
  • For unreturned loans we will send an invoice approximately one month after the beginning of the borrowing block.
  • If you have lost your loaned items, you can compensate them by acquiring equivalent replacement copies or by paying a replacement fee. DVDs cannot be compensated with equivalent copies. For more information on replacement fees, see the section on the Library's service fees.

Follow the advance notices

An advance notice will be sent to your email address reminding you of the approaching due dates of your loans. Keep track of the due dates yourself because you will have to pay the overdue fines even if you do not receive the reminder (for example, because of an obsolete address or email server failure).

Renewing

You can renew your loans online or by email or phone or in the library either using our self-service machines or at the customer service desk.

Loans can be renewed ten times at the most. Reserved items cannot be renewed. Night and weekend short loans (= reference books) cannot be renewed.

Reserving

You can reserve only material that is out on loan. Make the reservation online in the Janet database or at the Library’s customer service desk.

  • You will get a notice via email when your reservation has arrived for you to pick up.
  • Pick up your reservation from the Library’s self-service shelf for reserved books within one week after you have received the arrival notice email and borrow it. Course book reservations need to be picked up within three days or your reservation will expire.
  • Reservations are picked up from a self-service shelf wherein the customer’s name can be seen connected to the reserved material.
  • If you do not want your reservation in the self-service shelf, please contact the Library’s customer service: your reservation can then be picked up only during the Library’s customer service hours. More info: customer registers.

Do you need material from our collections, but you live on the other side of the country? Contact your local library. They will make an interlibrary loan request to us and we will send the material to them.

Your local library will check out the material for you and you will return it to them by the due date. Your local library can also renew the material if needed, if there are no holds on the material. You will return the material to your local library by the due date and they will send it back to us.

Remember to mention that you are a JAMK student. Interlibrary loans for JAMK students are 5 euros per item.

You can also request an interlibrary loan via JAMK’s interlibrary service if you cannot find the book or other publication you want from JAMK University of Applied Sciences library or other libraries in the area, such as Jyväskylä University Library or Keski-Kirjasto libraries.
