The JAMK students and staff can access our electronic resources when logged in the JAMK network, also remotely.

You can search for electronic materials - books, journals, articles, theses, standards, sheet music, and so on - via Janet database.

More specific instructions are listed under each resource (click the i button for more information). Remember to check the terms of use for e-books.

You can read e-books on your PC, tablet, e-reader, or smart phone. Some of the e-books can be downloaded for off-line reading.
Depending on the e-book service and your device, you may need to download some free software before you can read the e-books, such as Adobe Digital Editions, Bluefire Reader, or Ebrary Reader.


Remote Access

You can use most of JAMK Library’s e-books and databases via Janet at home or on the road. Log into Janet using your personal JAMK ID .

Accessible in the JAMK network or off-campus with a JAMK username and passwordIn the information source guides the pink key symbol next to a database title signals that logging in with a JAMK ID is required.


Ebook Central e-books (formerly Ebrary)

E-books are added into and deleted from Ebook Central’s collection regularly and at random. You can read the e-books online on your browser, or download them to your computer, tablet, or phone. You can download the e-books for 1-21 days.

To download the e-books you will need a personal account with which to sign in to Ebook Central, and also Adobe Digital Editions reader or Bluefire reader.

Create a personal Ebook Central account

1. Go to the Ebook Central platfrom via Janet.
2. Click on the "Sign in" tab.
3. Click the “Join Ebook Central" link.
4. Provide basic identifying data, including first name, last name and a working email address, as well as a password.
5. Click the “Join Ebook Central" link again.

Ebsco e-books

You can read EBSCO eBooks in your web browser or alternatively by downloading them on your computer or other device for 1-7 days. The number of simultaneous ebook users allowed varies from 1-3 users to an unlimited number of users.

In order to download an EBSCO eBook you need to first create an account at EBSCO. In addition you need to install Adobe Digital Editions (for Windows) or Bluefire Reader (for Android, iPad, iPhone).

Knovel e-books

Knovel: Thousands of e-books and reference books from several subject areas in engineering and technology.
Available collections:

You can read Knovel e-books online.
You can download single sections in PDF format to your computer. You cannot download a whole book at once. A free software Adobe Reader required.

  1. Search the e-book.
  2. Click the title of the book. The list shows you each section in separate PDF files. Click any section..
  3. Click Options icon    in the margin on the left and choose Download section. You can open the section in Adobe Reader and download it to your computer in PDF format.

Outside JAMK’s campuses, use the link on Janet and install the FileOpen plugin. Staff, use the link on Janet (haka Login).
