Last year, students obtained 13,520 credits in the Open Studies provided by JAMK University of Applied Sciences, which is almost 2,000 credits more than the previous record made during the previous year. In terms of courses, the 2017 result means more than 5,300 courses completed by students. At the national level, JAMK was the fourth most popular provider of open UAS studies.

Path studies in the social and health services field, after which students can apply to become degree students at JAMK, and Diploma of Higher Education modules in the business administration field are particularly popular.

– At the national level, we have a strong position right beside the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences XAMK and the universities of applied sciences in the Helsinki area. We are in a good position to aim for the top three, comments Education Development Manager Hannu Ikonen from JAMK.

In 2017, higher education studies became available in Äänekoski. To date, the studies provided in collaboration by JAMK’s Open Studies and the Open University of the University of Jyväskylä have already attracted 150 students with different courses.

– The goal is to extend these activities to other parts of the region as well. In fact, we have already held preliminary discussions with the Cities of Jämsä and Keuruu, Ikonen says.
