Over the course of the year, JAMK’s students of social and health care services organised numerous recreational events for the elderly. The projects were part of the first year entrepreneurship studies, and their goal was to bring joy to day activity centres and nursing homes. The events also provided the young people with experience in project efforts and working with elderly people at different levels of functional capacity.
Studies have shown that exercise, joint activities and social interaction improve brain health among those suffering from memory disorders and mental health among all senior citizens. The recreational events were planned with these aspects in mind.
In addition to this, the students offered single-parent households a welcome break from the day-to-day bustle by arranging a winter-themed meet.
