Come to Jyväskylä on 6-7 November for topical themes in education!

Higher and Vocational Education Research Days are targeted at all those interested in the development of vocational education and education at universities of applied sciences.

JAMK's Vocational Teacher Education College and its partners are responsible for arrangements for the 2014 Research Days.

Themes and the programme

Research Days deals with topical issues in vocational education and education at universities of applied sciences. The themes are reflected in the entire programme content of the Research Days. The abstracts are also submitted according to themes.

The first day's keynote speaker will be Professor Kathryn Ecclestone from University of Sheffield, whose presentation is in English. On the second day the keynote presentation of Ilkka Pirskanen, Director at North Karelian Adult Education Centre, is in Finnish.

The main language in the event is Finnish, but during the first day there will be thematic sessions as well as an international keynote in English. You can upload a more detailed programme (pdf document) from below.

Instructions for presenters

Do you have an oral presentation or are you going to present your poster? Behind the links below you can find instructions to help you prepare your presentation.

Attendance fee

You can attend Research Days for either one or two days. The attendance fee includes participation at Research Days and refreshments served in connection with the programme. The billing will be done after registration. VAT is included in prices.

•    Both seminar days: €250 / attendee
•    One seminar day: €150 / attendee
•    Student price:  €50 / attendee (price for full-time students only)

Submission of abstracts

At Higher and Vocational Education Research Days 2014, we hope for different presentations on development projects and research work. You can suggest to present your topic either through an oral presentation, poster or roundtable discussion.

Abstracts were submitted between 4 August and 15 September. The acceptance of abstracts was announced on 30 September.

Instructions for submitting abstracts

The abstract dealing with your research or development project should be no more than 1,500 characters in length. When you submit your abstract, choose whether you want to handle your topic as an oral presentation or as a poster. It is also possible to propose in a roundtable discussion group. The final date for submissions was 15 September 2014.

An abstract should state:

•    the author(s)
•    the background organisation
•    the topic of the research/name of the development project
•    questions and objectives
•    methods/implementation
•    results and conclusions.

Proceedings publication

The electronic Proceedings publication is a compilation of Research Days presentations, where those interested have the opportunity to write an article (approx. 10 pages) about their own presentation. If you are interested in writing an article, mark this on the abstract submission form. More detailed instructions about writing an article are given on October 2014.

Location

The Higher and Vocational Education Research Days 2014 are being held in Jyväskylä, Finland at Dynamo at the address Piippukatu 2 on JAMK's Lutakko campus. The distance between Dynamo and the Jyväskylä city centre along the pedestrian bridge (Messusilta) beside the Jyväskylä Travel Centre is just a few hundred metres.

A quota of hotel rooms has been reserved for attendees. All hotels are situated in the city centre district, within walking distance of the venue for Research Days.
