Jamk Pathway Programme in Nursing
The Pathway Programme in Nursing gives graduated nurses or nursing students in India the opportunity to upgrade their existing degree into a European "Bachelor of Health Care" degree, and acquiring a license to work as a Registered Nurse in Finland.
After completing the nursing degree at Jamk University of Applied Sciences, the pathway graduates are eligible to apply into nursing positions in social and health care environments in Finland and other EU countries - in fields such as specialized medical care, social welfare, as well as private and third sectors.
The degree at Jamk is equivalent to 210 ECTS and corresponds to European Qualification Framework (EQF) Level 6. The previous nursing studies in India will be accredited to the degree so that the actual number of credits completed at Jamk amounts to approximately 90 ECTS.
How does it work?
The programme is divided into two phases - a six-month basic studies phase in India, where the student's eligibility for further studies in Finland are also tested. After the student is deemed eligible, they'll begin the second, twelve-month phase in Finland.
Phase 1: India (6 months)
The first six months are spent studying the Finnish language in India while simultaneously completing some of Jamk’s nursing studies which will later be accredited to the degree at Jamk. During the study period in India, Jamk teachers teach nursing studies using the Blended Learning Method: teaching and counselling online with 1-2 intensive lecturing periods on-site in India with teachers travelling from Finland.
Phase 2: Finland (12 months)
After the six-month intensive language training period, students who have completed the studies with passing grades and passed the semester examination can continue to the second phase of the programme which will be implemented as one-year fulltime studies at Jamk University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä, Finland. After completing the programme, graduates receive the degree Bachelor of Health Care from Jamk and are licensed by the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) to work as Registered Nurses in Finland.
The education at Jamk utilises a wide range of student-oriented teaching, learning and evaluating methods, such as activating lectures, simulations, clinical practice, workshops, seminars, projects with working life partners and independent study. These teaching and learning methods develop the competencies and skills needed in working life, such as digital skills. Our teachers are highly skilled and internationally experienced and will help you to make a personal learning plan for your studies.
