Entrepreneurship education plays a significant role in vocational education. Students should learn the entrepreneurial skills needed in both their profession and working life in a relatively short time. Students enter vocational education equipped with different entrepreneurial skills, and no single way of implementing entrepreneurship education is effective. Aware of the current situation, this development project will strengthen the effectiveness of entrepreneurship education at vocational secondary level. The primary target of the project is vocational teachers who are studying to become teachers at a vocational teacher training college and who are already working. However, the largest group of beneficiaries are students completing a vocational secondary level degree.
Although promoting entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial activities are seen as important areas in vocational education (Ministry of Education and Culture, 2016; Finnish Entrepreneurs, 2021), entrepreneurship is mainly taught in the classroom using teacher-led teaching methods (Capote & Vedua-Dinagsao, 2015; Kolho et al., 2022). Therefore, vocational education teachers still need to strengthen their competence in promoting students' entrepreneurial skills (Cedefop, 2023).
The aim of this project is
- to comprehensively develop entrepreneurship education in vocational education and
test entrepreneurship education methods and evaluate the effects of different methods on the development of entrepreneurial skills in vocational upper secondary students.
- to strengthen the entrepreneurship education competence of teacher students.
- to develop tools for teacher students and teachers to implement and evaluate effective entrepreneurship education.
- to develop the capabilities of vocational teacher training colleges to promote the implementation of entrepreneurship education at vocational secondary level.
