Project description
A code of ethics and sustainability are the general basis of the sports sector. Accordingly, the role of municipalities is recognized in the as significant in terms of promoting the population's physical activity. The role of municipalities has become stronger due to the social- and healthcare reform.
State guidance and funding practices put more emphasis on sports organizations investing in responsibility than before, which can be seen in the changes in focus of the state subsidy criteria of the national organizations in the field. As a whole, the activities of sports organizations are under significant pressure due to the changes in the state funding of sports.
Correspondingly, the importance of the municipalities' sports activities has been emphasized in the preventive work related to the well-being of the municipalities. At the same time, especially with the social- and healthcare reform, the funding of municipalities has changed, and this may have an impact on the municipalities' opportunities to implement sports services. The SUUNTA project examines the aforementioned changes in the international and local reference framework from the perspective of sports organizations and municipalities.
