The SmartCHANGE international consortium met in Jyväskylä

The international consortium of the SmartCHANGE project met in Jyväskylä on 27-28 May 2025. The meeting discussed the status reviews and follow-up actions of each of the eight work packages.

SmartCHANGE is an international EU Horizon research project that uses artificial intelligence and risk analyses to create technological solutions to promote the health of children and young people. In addition to children and young people, the target group is professionals such as public health nurses. 

The SmartCHANGE project involves eight countries from Europe and, in collaboration with Taipei Medical University. The leader of the research project consortium is artificial intelligence researcher Mitja Luštrek from the Joseph Stefan Institute in Slovenia.

SmartCHANGE research

  • How can the adult risk of lifestyle diseases be predicted based on the lifestyles of children and young people? 
  • What new technological solutions are being developed to promote health for children, young people, families and healthcare professionals? 
  • HappyPlant is a mobile application that rewards children and young people for healthy habits. It has been designed in a participatory study with children, young people and families. The application is in the pilot phase.

Likes from Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences is the only Finnish partner in the SmartCHANGE project. Likes will participate in the development and testing of the application at school among students and healthcare professionals. Likes will also produce health data for the prediction model. 

The SmartCHANGE study is funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe programme.
