Data transparency from farm to plate - BioBoosters Hackathon powered by Neste
BioBoosters Hackathon powered by Neste invites innovators to tackle a challenge: how to ensure transparent and compliant emission reduction data collection and its use across the entire agri-food value chain.

Neste, with its Neste MY Renewable Diesel ™, is one of the partners in the Finnish Future Farm project that enables the use and development of solutions that minimize greenhouse gas emissions and improve economic profitability of arable farming of grass and grain.
The goal of the BioBoosters Hackathon, powered by Neste is to find new solutions that can for example gather, report and/or analyze fuel emission data and help the agri-food value chain reach its emission reduction goals.
The Challenge: Unlocking Transparency Across the Agri-Food Value Chain
Agri-food systems alone account for roughly one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions, spanning everything from farming and land use to food processing, transport and waste. To identify climate change hotspots and to meet growing regulatory and societal demands, transparent emissions tracking is essential.
Transparency across the agri-food value chain is key to driving measurable climate impact and meeting evolving sustainability regulations. Frameworks like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) are raising the bar for data quality and accountability. At the same time, stakeholders—from consumers to investors—expect clear evidence of climate action.
Reliable data enables progress tracking, regulatory compliance, and informed decision-making — making transparency a cornerstone of resilient, future-proof food systems.
Join now!
At the hackathon, we challenge innovators to unlock the power of data for transparent, accurate, and regulation-compliant reporting in agri-food systems. The goal is to identify new solutions that are closely aligned with Neste’s products and to support the agriculture sector players to achieve their emission reduction targets.
Already have a solution? Join and shape together with us the future of more sustainable and transparent food production systems—one data point at a time.
The call is open. Apply by 27 September 2025 using this form.
Who We’re Looking For
We invite companies and innovators across Europe to join us in solving this challenge, especially:
- Sustainability consultants
- GHG accounting tool providers
- LCA calculation experts
- Startups and innovators
Evaluation criteria
1. Relevance to the Challenge
The proposed solution must directly address the core question: how to ensure transparent, accurate, and regulation-compliant sustainability data across the agri-food value chain, with a clear link to Neste’s products.
2. Scalability and Practical Impact
The solution should demonstrate potential for real-world application and scalability across different parts of the agri-food system. Preference is given to approaches that can be integrated into existing reporting or operational processes.
3. Innovation and Technical Feasibility
The idea should bring forward new thinking, methods, or technologies—while remaining technically feasible within the scope of the hackathon. Use of existing tools, platforms, or data sources is encouraged if they support rapid prototyping.
4. Collaboration and Value Chain Understanding
Teams should show an understanding of the agri-food value chain and propose roles, responsibilities, or partnerships that support transparency and shared sustainability goals.
Neste will evaluate the applicants and invite the most promising ones to the Hackathon days held in November 2025.
