Wisdom has been discussed for thousands of years in wisdom traditions, religions, and philosophies. The word philosophy means "love of wisdom," but what is wisdom according to empirical researchers and scholars who have studied the field for a long time? In my presentation, I will introduce a new meta-model of wisdom that brings together the views of 19 different researchers on wisdom. The model is called the "Holistic Wisdom Model" (Kallio & Tynjälä, 2025). Wisdom is needed in this day and age, which is riddled with many different crises. The model views wisdom as a complex phenomenon that combines many areas of psychology, such as thinking, emotion, ethics, and action. The goal of wise action is to transcend oneself, toward broader, positive effects on communities and planetary well-being.
The webinar is part of the Research Insights into Vocational Teacher Education (VTE) series, which shares current research on vocational teacher education, learning resilience, and the development of digital pedagogy - especially in times of crisis and change.
In particular, the series provides listeners with a deeper understanding of the current educational landscape in Ukraine and of how resilience, diversity, and pedagogical expertise in teacher education are being developed amidst crisis through international collaboration.
