Join us to learn about community-based interventions in the social and health care sector and the importance of community participation. You’ll have the opportunity to study in an international study group and carry out a theory-based project that promotes community participation.

Content

The main content of the course is:

The basic concepts and cultural aspects of community-based interventions.

Examples of community-based interventions.

The use of your professional competence in planning and implementing a short developmental community-based project.

Basics of RALLA -play observation method OR Housing Enabler home accessibility assessment method as a tool to enhance community participation of the clients.

Documentation of RALLA or Housing Enabler assessment results.

The course may include possibilities for international collaboration with university students abroad (e.g., collaborative webinars, study visits or intensive international weeks).

Objectives

Purpose of the course:
The purpose of the course is to deepen your understanding of the principles of community-based work in the social and health sector.

Learning outcomes of the course:

After completing this course, you will be familiar with various communities and their role in promoting individual well-being. You will be able to list factors that enhance the experience of functional justice and equality within communities and apply Canadian occupational therapy theory to this analysis. You will also review the ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health) classification.
After the course, you will have practiced implementing innovative activities in collaboration with a community and examined the significance of community participation for the individual. You will be able to apply your professional expertise in a community project and critically assess the resources required for the project.
After completing the course, you will be familiar with the use of the RALLA or Housing Enabler assessment method and will be able to document and utilize the assessment results to support community participation.

The course includes contact days on campus, webinars and independent studies.
