Open University Route Studies comprehends first-year degree studies. The study entity contains contact studies and requires attendance in Jyväskylä Finland.
Please note that residence permits are not granted for studies at open universities or open studies. International students may need a visa or residence permit for Open Studies, depending on their citizenship. It is impossible to get these permits for Open Studies. For further information, please visit the website of the Finnish Immigration Service.
The Route Studies are for you who are aiming for a degree studies. You must have the following study abilities: independent study skills, interaction and teamwork skills, fluent writing skills, basic IT skills (computer management, word processing, e-mail, electronic services) and sufficient language skills, ie at least B2 level in English.

To pursue studies in the social and healthcare sector, your health and functional capacity must be such that it will not prevent studies in the field concerned. Allergies and musculoskeletal disorders, for example, can become a health problem during your studies or later in working life.
Studying and working in the field requires a good mental balance and wellbeing, since the priority of working is to be able to help others. In addition, you need to have good interaction and emotional intelligence skills, and ability to understand and react to ethical questions. You also need to be able to work close to people. Group working skills in diverse groups are emphasized.
Jamk can request a criminal record extract for students whose studies essentially require working with underage persons.
After completing 55 ECTS credits in the Open University of Applied Sciences (UAS), the student can apply for study entitlement in the Degree Programme via Open University Route. Please note that accredited studies (such as previous degree studies) cannot be recognised in 55 ECTS credits. Only Campus Online -studies completed during the Open University Route Studies in Nursing can be recognised.
Tuition fees:
If your nationality is not of a European Union (EU) country, European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland, and you are offered admission to a degree programme that is not in Finnish or Swedish, you need to pay an annual tuition fee. The tuition fees also concern non-EU/EEA students who gain admission after applying via Open University Route. Non-EU/EEA students can also be exempted from paying tuition fees if they submit a copy of an exempting document.

Application fee:
Applicants who are not citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland are required to pay an application fee in order to apply to higher education studies. The application fee is 100 euros. There is no application fee for Finnish or EU citizens. The Finnish National Agency of Education will collect the application fee in connection with filling in the Studyinfo application form.

Open University Route Studies include also language studies (Finnish 1 for non-Finnish speakers / Swedish for working life for Finnish students).

- Evidence Based Nursing, 5 cr
- Pharmacotherapy, 3 cr
The studies will start with orientation programme during 18.8.-21.8.2025 in Jyväskylä.
