Key learning outcomes

A graduate of the degree programme in Professional Project Management has extensive knowledge in project management and is able to utilise project management methods and tools. They understand the importance of people to the success of a project and can lead people as a superior, project manager, and project portfolio manager taking into account the company's strategy. The person can apply the acquired skills in multidisciplinary projects in different roles and changing operating environments.

The development, leadership, and interaction skills acquired during your studies create the capacity to work in diverse networks and multidisciplinary teams.

The graduate has the skills to pursue continuous learning, creative problem solving and career development. They operate an ethical manner and supporting sustainable development.

It is possible to build a unique, personal study path in many different ways: the studification of work, the extensive use of master-level courses in Jamk's other Master's degrees, CampusOnline, EduFutura, Enterprise Factory, Future Factory, and other universities and universities of applied sciences. Studies may include competence already completed or acquired elsewhere through inclusion or the identification and recognition of previously acquired competence. 

The studies are carried out as contact or online studies and students can choose the option that suits them best. Both options include, for example, independent and team-based studies, lectures, presentations, and seminars.

The studies consist of common courses at Jamk Master School of Management, expert studies in the degree programme, and complementary studies that support the student's learning and career goals. The thesis focuses on expert core competence.

The learning tasks included in the courses are recommended to be adapted to one’s own work and work community. Many work community development activities can also used as learning exercises and projects to be designed, refined and solved during your studies.

Master’s thesis

The Master's thesis is generally a development project in working life and gets 30 credits. Thus, half of the studies consist of a thesis. Through the thesis, it is possible to develop your own skills and take career goals in the direction you want.

The thesis is a research and development project that constructively develops an organisation's operations, realizes something new and produces new solutions and development. The thesis can also be focused on activities other than the current one or your own work tasks or organisation, in which case it is possible to gain expertise in new types of work tasks or competence in a new field. Thus, the training is also well-suited for those who dream of a career change.

Developing as a project management expert opens opportunities for new and challenging jobs and positions. You can work in projects in various positions like project manager, project portfolio manager or develop activities and processes of project planning and management in your organisation as an active producer of new skills. The studies also provide an opportunity for networking and exchange of expertise with student colleagues. This helps you to keep your skills up to date later.


The Degree Programme in Project Management is intended for individuals in a variety of fields who want to broaden their capabilities in project planning, management and leadership roles.

The programme can be applied for in a wide range of engineering degrees, such as mechanical, energy, construction and community, information technology and communications, environmental, logistics, electrical / automation technology, and industrial engineering and management, as well as various degrees in rescue and fire engineering.

The aim of the studies is to deepen your knowledge in different areas of project management. The graduate of the programme can work as a professional project developer in demanding expert and managerial positions, such as project manager, project portfolio manager or director.

Developing as a project management expert opens new and challenging positions and an opportunity to advance your career. As a student, you will deepen your leadership and communication skills as well as networking skills in different roles in projects and various roles within the organisation. As a postgraduate, you can work as an organisational developer and active producer of new knowledge and skills.

During the studies, you can network with experts from different fields and organisations.

In the Defence Forces, the degree of technical engineer required for certain specialist officer positions is obtained with a Master's degree in Engineering.

Entry requirements: Professional Project Management

  • The requirements for eligibility are a bachelor's level degree in engineering in the field of technology AND
  • at least two years (24 months) of work experience in the field of technology after the bachelor's degree. 

Application period: 4 – 18 January 2023 by 3.00 p.m. Finnish time

Applying for degree programmes conducted in English at universities of applied sciences (UAS) takes place through an online joint application system. 

  • Apply online 4 – 18 January 2023 by 3.00 p.m. Finnish time at
  • Attach the required enclosures (degree and work certificates and possible pre-assignment) to the online application form by 25 January 2023 by 3.00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+2) (e.g. as pdf. files).

Entrance examination: Spoken part and written part

The entrance examination will be held online on 14 March 2023 at 17.00-19.00 / 5-7 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+2).

All applicants who have demonstrated their eligibility will be invited to the entrance examination. The entrance exam includes an spoken part (max 20 p.) and a written exam (max 80 p.). Total points from entrance examination are 100 points. The student selection is based on the total score of the entrance examination.

The applicant must score at least 

  • 5/20 points from the spoken part and 
  • 15/80 points from the written part

in order to pass the exam and have a chance to be admitted for the programme. Applicant's English language skills will be assessed as a part of the entrance examination, thus, the entrance examination does not include a separate English language test.

Results of student selection: Steps for new students

Results are announced in the middle of April at the earliest and on 2 June 2023, at the latest.

  • NON-EU/EEA citizens: pay the tuition fee payment as soon as possible
  • start the residence permit (if needed) application process immediately in May to be able to start your studies in August. The residence permit application process might take time over 2 months, so be in time!
