Project description

Generation YZ Takes Work Communities to the Next Level

The main goal of the Generation YZ Takes Work Communities to the Next Level – project was to provide practical solutions on how SMEs can move to the next level in community learning and leadership required by the YZ Generation.

Practical solutions were developed in 12 pilot companies belonging to the target group in Central Finland in three different cycles. Key actions included company-specific initial and final surveys, joint company workshops and company-specific coaching, as well as participants' experiments in companies.

The themes of the workshops were selected based on the initial surveys

1. The YZ generation and the leadership

2. Interaction and listening

3. Individuality and feedback

4. Deployment of tools

The content of the coaching was designed around the companies' own development goals. Participants used video, reflection, and peer support as a tool in developing their own leadership. The final survey used the same questions as the initial survey and provided information on the development of companies on topics important to the YZ generations. In addition, the participating local managers, for their part, assessed how they had developed during the project.

As a result of the YZ-generation project, the following results were published on the project's website jamk.fi/yzukupolvi:

- 7 everyday management tools (listening, feedback, leading different types of people, participatory meetings, taking people into account in the change, a dream job and videoing in leadership development

- 2 tests: Test what you know about the yz generation and Have you taken into account the needs of the yz generation in running a company.

- 6 videos, themes: generations, leadership, interaction, relevance, young people's thoughts on working life and leadership

- A final publication that puts it all together

- A quote bank, which gathered participants' and young adults' ideas on leadership during the project

- 50 podcasts

- 8 articles

- 10 blogs

- Background, implementation, and analysis of mapping surveys

- Final seminar materials and videos

- Plenty of links and tips for further reading

- 3 related students' theses

As a result of the project, local managers are more active and conscious in reflecting on their own ways of thinking and values??and in observing their work. Particular attention has been paid to fair and active feedback, listening and communication. Knowledge of the diversity of the yz generation and its backgrounds has clarified their activity in leadership issues. Interaction between managers and discussions about leadership also developed during the project in the companies.
