Project description

Ankkuri Services and Violence Prevention Work in Central Finland

The project is funded by a government grant awarded by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health through the Health Promotion Appropriation

Violence experienced and perpetrated by children and young people is becoming increasingly visibly both in everyday life and in digital environments.

The project aims to strengthen children's and young people's ability to recognize violence, resolve conflicts constructively, and act safely in different interaction situations. In addition the project seeks to enhance the competence of professionals working with children and young people in identifying violence, discussing it openly, preventing it, and intervening when necessary. Families will also be provided with information on different forms of violence and practical ways to support a safe everyday environment for children and young people.

Within the project, Jamk University of Applied Sciences will develop a preventive violence intervention model for Central Finland together with children, young people, families and professionals, while building on existing evidence-based materials and resources. In practice, the project will implement participatory workshops, educational modules, events, and digital content addressing topics such as emotional skills, interaction skills, conflict resolution, and safe online behaviour.

The project draws on multidisciplinary higher education expertise at the intersection of education, research, development and innovation and regional development. Jamk students will participate in the planning, implementation, and development of activities for children and young people as part of various courses and project-based learning environments, including Future Factory and innoflash projects. The project aims to engage students from multiple fields of study, including international students enrolled in English-taught degree programmes. At the same time, the project will strengthen students' competences in violence prevention, working with children and young people, and multidisciplinary collabroration.

The overall goal is to develop a unified operating model across Central Finland that strengthens the wellbeing, safety, and participation of children and young people while preventing violence and crime.
