Researchers' Night gathered hundreds of participants to the main campus

The Researchers' Night science event, which was held at Jamk for the first time, was visited by hundreds of visitors on 26 September 2025. All the evening's activity points were evenly filled with participants. Many of the visitors said that they had not been to the premises of the main campus before. The atmospheric lighting of the main campus and the event corridors invited passers-by to dive into the world of science and creativity.

Networking and new information at the daytime event

During the day, working life partners and stakeholders were especially invited to the Researchers' Night. RDI projects had invited their own partners to the event. The daytime event featured networking and sharing new information on many different themes. The Tested by Jamk expert event for the renewing industry gathered several dozen participants to technology laboratories and demonstration stands.

The diverse programme interested the audience

The gathering of superpowers in families and the music class and frog instrument crafts of Musatossuit were of particular interest to the little people. In the technology laboratories, a hydrogen-powered remote-controlled car, ash samples, microalgae and holograms sparked good discussions with researchers and participants. Dozens of pairs of eyes gathered for the work demonstrations on the strengths of materials and thin films. In the archipelago nature, the restorative VR glasses had to be put on hold from time to time when the glasses had to be given a moment to charge due to congestion. Many adult participants commented that they were surprised by the significant relieving effect of exoskeletons in lifting loads and in different working positions.

"We have lacked a similar event aimed at the general public and families. I'm really happy that we had the courage to participate in the Researchers' Night this year. It is especially great that so many RDI projects were inspired to present their activities for the first time. This is exactly what we should do: show what we can do and share information and inspiration with the public. We will certainly be involved next year as well," says R&D Manager Petri Moilanen, head of department.

Different lifestyles and everyday choices were discussed in a functional workshop related to the development of the HappyPlant application. At the various checkpoints, the children were able to think about their leisure time, breakfast choices, and relaxation and recovery, among other things. The app is still in the development phase, which was a bit annoying for some children as the app is not yet available.

"The children's feedback and answers are wonderfully direct and honest. At home, we haven't necessarily had the same kind of conversations about breakfast or leisure time as we did now. The parents raised their eyebrows with a slight smile when the children told what they ate in the morning or how much they played. One of our goals was to get families to think about their everyday choices and perhaps fine-tune them a bit. It's really fun to talk to the children, and it was a pleasure to see how enthusiastic they were when they also participated in the motor skills course," says Fitness Test Coordinator Heidi Lindfors.

Jamk's e-sports space GamePit Pro was full for almost the entire evening. Some started the tour from there and came back again at the end.

"We had good discussions with parents about competitive gaming and various educational and career opportunities in the game industry, while young people focus on many types of gaming. E-sports, and especially game technologies, offer a lot of opportunities for various research and development work that are not yet fully understood by the general public or even by many companies," says Senior Advisor Hanna Hauvala.

A warm thank you to all the participants! Welcome again next year.
