Cybersecurity is one of Jamk's strategic focus areas. Expertise in this field is promoted by means of degree programmes, research and development as well as versatile testing and practice activities. The purpose of the practices is to improve companies’ and authorities’ continuity management capabilities.

The Realistic Global Cyber Environment (RGCE) developed by JYVSECTEC, Jamk’s cybersecurity research, development, and training centre, has been used for such events as National Cybersecurity Exercises (KYHA).

“Jamk has an established role as a promoter of cybersecurity at the national level, both in degree education and in developing know-how in companies. As a FISC member, we have access to a significant network of actors in this field. Working together with them we can develop our cybersecurity expertise further, carry out R&D activities and, for example, influence the content of European funding mechanisms. This is an excellent forum for exerting influence and becoming involved”, says Mika Karjalainen, Director of Jamk’s Institute of Information Technology.

As a FISC member, Jamk participates in the organisation's working group on skills and education. This group discusses issues related to education and promoting research and strives to increase the working life relevance of education in the field. The activities include collaborating with authorities and stakeholders, defining education policy guidelines and opinions, and sharing information on the expertise and training needs of companies in the cyber sector.
