Orientation Weekend in Helsinki and Study Tours

Orientation Days in Helsinki, 29 - 31 May 2026

The Summer School experience starts with a weekend in our beautiful capital Helsinki. Our student tutors will meet you at your arrival to Finland and guide and spend time with you and your fellow students in Helsinki. Summer school opening session will be organized on Saturday, where you will meet your fellow students on the premises of Helsinki University, the oldest and highest-ranked university in Finland. After the opening, you will also have enough time to see the most interesting attractions and sights of Helsinki. 

Helsinki is a modern city with half a million residents and yet full of history and small enough for you to get around easily. After enjoying the capital’s summertime hustle and bustle, you can hop on one of our buses taking you directly to Jyväskylä. Read more information below. 

Accommodation note: the admin fee covers your stay at Eurohostel (see the page concerning fees).

Schedule (Finnish time) 

Friday 29 May

  • Landing in Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Our student tutors will meet you upon arrival to Helsinki Airport. 
  • Accommodation. Our student tutors will then guide you to your accommodation by public transport and check that your accommodation is fine.
  • Free time! After getting your luggage to the hostel, you'll have free time for the rest of the day. 

Saturday 30 May

  • 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Summer school opening session in one of the oldest conference halls of highest-ranked universities in Finland.  During the session, you will meet your fellow classmates, faculty, and summer school team.
  • Lunch (at own expense).

Sunday 31 May

Students who go to Tallinn:  

  • 9:00 am - Departure from Eurohostel to the harbor by bus
  • 10:30 am - Ferry to Tallinn with breakfast onboard
  • 12:30 pm - Arrival in Tallinn and guided city tour
  • 6:00 pm - Meeting in the city center and going back to the harbor
  • 7:30 pm - Ferry back to Helsinki with buffet dinner
  • 9:30 pm - Arrival in Helsinki and transportation to Jyväskylä
  • 01:00 am - Arrival at Jyväskylä and check in to the hotel 

Students who don't go to Tallinn: 

  • 11:00 am - Departure to the city of Porvoo by bus from your accommodation. Check your belongings before leaving the hostel. 
  • 12:00 pm - Arrival to Porvoo, spend some time walking around an amazing city of Porvoo. Lunch at own expense.
  • 2:30 pm - Departure to Jyväskylä by bus. 
  • 5:00 pm - Arrival to Jyväskylä.

Welcome to Tallinn - The Times We Had! Tallinn - the Estonian Capital, is known for its medieval Old Town with places of fascinating contrasts. The city centre boasts of beautiful churches and major landmarks nestled between modern high-rises. All sights are conveniently located only a short stroll away from each other. 

Cost: preliminary 160€ (group of min 50 and max 60 students)

Visit beautiful Stockholm, Sweden on June 12 - 14 2026

There are no classes on Friday, 12 June. Take advantage of this long weekend to explore Stockholm — whether you travel solo or with classmates, it's a great opportunity to discover the charm of Sweden’s capital city. You can take the flight from Helsinki to Stockholm (less than an hour) or an overnight ferry from Helsinki or Turku to Stockholm.  

Visit beautiful Stockholm that spreads across 14 islands and is connected by over 50 bridges. The city blends medieval charm with modern design, offering something for everyone, whether you're into history, art, nature, or simply relaxing by the water, Stockholm promises a memorable experience.
