JAMK’s principles of open access publication In JAMK, the practices of open science have been centralized. The process has been made as smooth to the author as possible. By parallel publishing the staff’s scientific publications on an open publication archive, we ensure the open access to our publications.
The goal is to parallel publish all scientific articles
Open access is ensured by parallel publishing the article's final draft version on an open publication archive, which for JAMK is Theseus. Parallel publishing of scientific publications produced in JAMK is always required, if the publisher allows it (Rector’s decision 10/2016).
The parallel publishing obligation mainly applies to the scientific publications by JAMK staff (including Open Access publications), in other words individual articles published in a scientific journal, serial publication, conference publication or other compilation work. Other publications can also be parallel published.
Choose a high-quality publisher, favour Open Access
The article’s author will choose the most suitable publishing channel with regard to its quality and impact, while favouring the high-quality Open Access publishers of each field (Green Open Access is the preferred choice) and open access serial publications. JAMK does not recommend hybrid model publishing. So-called predatory publishers with questionable quality standards and publishing motives should be avoided.
The parallel publishing right is noted in the agreement
When making the publishing agreement, the author should pay attention to the publication’s parallel publishing rights. Most publishers will allow the parallel publishing of a certain version after a determined embargo. If the article has several authors, it is recommended to agree on parallel publishing at this stage.
