The instructions below concern spring application period 7 - 20 January 2021 (Bachelor's Degree Programmes in Tourism Management, Purchasing and Logistics Engineering, Nursing, International Business, Business Information Technology & Information and Communication Technology).

How are students selected to the degree programmes?

Student selection

Students are selected to bachelor's degrees conducted in English principally by two different entrance examination methods:

  • Entrance examination in Finland
  • Online entrance examination (FINNIPS network)

If you attend to both of these entrance examination, you will be taken into account in both of the selection methods.

It is not necessary to attend to both of these entrance examinations. One accepted examination result from either of the examinations is sufficient for a change to be admitted. Applicants will be ranked by the points awarded for the examination.

Update 22.1.2021: Due to the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, entrance examinations for Nursing and Business Information Technology are organised completely online, and only in February. 

In Information and Communication Technology, students are selected on the basis of the points awarded for an online course and interview. 

In Purchasing and Logistics Engineering, part of the students are selected by entrance examination and part by SAT test. SAT test in not compulsory. You can find more information about SAT test as a selection method in content of entrance examinations of Purchasing and Logistics Engineering.

Below you can find the distribution of study places available in different selection methods. In case one selection method queue is not filled, the available study places are filled from another selection method queue.

At JAMK, there is no selection based on the degree certificate used in applying in the first application period of spring. Thus, earlier academic performance does not affect to the student selection. It is also not necessary to provide a language proficiency certificate by the set date. The English language skills are assessed in the entrance examination.

Selection Between Applicants with Equal Admission Scores

In cases of equal admission scores, JAMK's applicants will be ranked on the following grounds in the final selection:

  1. points awarded for the entrance examination

If the above mentioned criteria fail to produce a difference between tied applicants, they will be automatically ranked by a computerised lottery.

What is the content of the different entrance examinations?

 

Purchasing and Logistics Engineering

Online entrance examination, FINNIPS network

The  online entrance examination's (FINNIPS) written part will be held on 10 February 2021 and online group discussions during 1-15 March 2021.

The entrance examination consists:

  • Part 1: Mathematics, logical thinking, physics, chemistry and learning skills (min 10/40 points)
  • Be prepared to apply the SWOT analysis method to show your motivation to study in a technical degree programme
  • Part 2: Oral part: group discussion (min 5/10 points)

Only applicants who have reached the minimum points in part 1 will be invited to the group discussion part of the exam. Applicant must pass all parts of the examination in order to be selected for admission.

The final content of entrance examination will be published in the invitation letter.

 

SAT-test

You can be selected to Purchasing and Logistics Engineering with the SAT test without participating in an entrance exam. Applicants are accepted in order of best SAT-points. The official SAT result report must be ordered directly from the test organiser. The code for JAMK University of Applied Sciences is 6956. Reports printed or sent by the applicant him/herself are not acceptable.

Only new SAT scores taken after 1 March 2016 are accepted. Please note that SAT Subject Tests are not accepted. The SAT test selection only takes into account the sections performed during a single session. JAMK UAS must receive your SAT score by 10 February 2021. The registration closes approximately one month before the test dates. Check registration deadlines on the SAT website.

JAMK UAS requires a minimum score of

  • 400 from Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and
  • 400 from Math.

Nursing

Online entrance examination, FINNIPS network

The online entrance examination's (FINNIPS) written part will be held on 5 February 2021 and group discussions during 1-15 March 2021.

The entrance examination consists:

  • Part A: Written part: two essays (min 20/40 points) The first essay is testing motivation. In the second essay there is written material (text) included. 
  • Part B: Group discussion (min 10/30 points). This is held to evaluate the applicant’s group discussion and spoken English skills.

Only applicants who have reached the minimum points in part A, will be invitated to the group discussion part of the exam (part B). Applicant must pass all parts of the examination in order to be selected for admission.

The online entrance examination's (FINNIPS) written parts will be held on 11 February 2021 and group discussions during 1-15 March 2021.

The entrance examination consists of the following sections:

  • Written part 1: Essay (min 7/20 points)
  • Written part 2: Mathematical-logical part (min 7/20 points)
  • Oral part: Group discussion (min 11/30 points)

Only applicants who have reached the minimum points in sections written part 1 and written part 2 will be invited to the group discussion part of the exam. Applicant must pass all parts of the examination in order to be selected for admission.

Only applicants who have reached the minimum points in sections written part 1, 2 and 3 will be invited to the group discussion part of the exam. Applicant must pass all parts of the examination in order to be selected for admission.

Business Information Technology

Online entrance examination, FINNIPS network

The online entrance examination's (FINNIPS) written parts will be held on 12 February 2021 and group interviews during 22-26 February 2021.

The entrance examination consists of the following sections:

  • Written part 1: Multiple choice questions based on the pre-reading material (min 2/5 points)
  • Written part 2: Logical thinking multiple choice questions (min 8/20 points)
  • Spoken part: Group interview (min 8/15 points)

Only applicants who have reached the minimum points in sections written parts 1 and 2 will be invited to the group discussion part of the exam.

Applicant's language skills are evaluated based on both the written and the verbal part of the exam. The minimum points in the exam are 18/40 points.

Information and Communication Technology

The final deadline for enrolling for the online course at JAMK's Open UAS is  27 January 2021. The online course begins on 3 February 2021 and ends on 31 March 2021. After the online course maximum of 100 applicants will be invitated to the online interview based by score order. The interview will be implemented individually. The interview will be held on the week 16 (19 - 23 April 2021).

Total scoring:

  1. Online course maximum of 60 points (the course must be completed acceptably).
  2. Interview maximum of 40 points (min 20 points).

Alltogether maximum of 100 points.
