Concerns Bachelor's Degree Programme in International Business, autumn application period.


1. Apply online www.studyinfo.fi 6 – 20 September 2017 by 3:00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+2).

2. Regardless of nationality, all applicants must send the required enclosures to JAMK UAS' admission services by 27 September 2017 by 3:00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+2) at the latest (regardless of whether JAMK is the first option or not). Required enclosures:

  • copies of the original degree certificates and transcripts (high school/secondary school)
  • authorised translation of the certificate/transcript if needed (in English, Finnish or Swedish, the translation must have the translators' signature and stamp)
  • English language profiency certificate

3. All eligible applicants are invited to entrance examinations. Invitations to entrance examination or decisions on eligibility are sent by email in the beginning/middle of October.

4. Entrance examinations are arranged in October. The invitation letter (email) will include all the details about time, location, and special arrangements.

5. Results are announced on 24 November 2017, at the latest.

6. If you are admitted, you must confirm your study place by 8 December 2017 by 3:00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+2), at the latest. If you do not return the form on time, you will lose the study place.

7. Studies will begin in the beginning of January 2018. Please, arrive to Jyväskylä by that time!

How to Apply?

Applying for degree programmes conducted in English at universities of applied sciences (UAS) and universities takes place through an online joint application system. Apply online 6 – 20 September 2017 by 3:00 p.m, www.studyinfo.fi. 



You can apply up to 6 different degree programmes using the same application form. Notice, that you can submit only one application form. However, if you submit multiple applications, only the latest will be taken into consideration! You cannot change your preferences after the application period has ended. We recommend you to fill in your own application form, agents are not needed.

Remember to place the study options in order of your preference, so that the option you prefer most is first on the application! You are offered only one study place, if admitted – your results will be checked to determine the highest option your results will be enough to.

If you are invited to an examination, you will receive an invitation letter by email. So please remember to type your email address correctly into your application! Check your email regularly and also your spam email folder. Notice, that if you have an application number, we have received your application, even if you did not receive a confirmation email.

General Entry Requirements

Eligibility to apply for higher education studies can be obtained with

  • general upper secondary school 
  • vocational qualification
  • International Baccalaureate, Reifeprüfung or European Baccalaureate examination
  • vocational college diploma or higher vocational diploma
  • foreign degree/qualification which gives eligibility for higher education in the awarding country.

In addition, applicants must provide proof of their English language skills by 27 of September 2017 at 3:00 p.m. More information below. 

Admission is conditional until the university of applied sciences has checked applicant’s relevant original final certificates. The UAS may cancel the admission if an applicant fails to submit certificates by the specified deadline, or if an applicant has provided false information or has forged document(s).


If you are applying with non-Finnish qualifications and you are not an EU/EEA citizen you must have the final degree certificate by the end of the application period. UAS' accept only the final certificates awarded by national and regional bodies granting educational certificates. Various other documents such as "Testimonials", "Statements of Results", or "Result Slips" are not considered as official certificates without the final certificate.

If you are an EU/EEA citizen, you are able to apply even if your degree certificate is completed during the fall of applying (secondary school certificate). Notice, that in this case your admission is conditional until the polytechnic/UAS has checked your final degree certificates. The qualification used in the application procedure must be completed such that the copy of the final degree certificate will arrive at the relevant university of applied sciences no later than 3:00 p.m. on 29 December 2017.

Please enclose the following documents with the application:

  • copies of the original degree certificate and transcript of records (secondary school/high school)
  • authorised translation of the certificate/transcript if needed (in English, Finnish or Swedish, the translation must have the translators' signature and stamp), copy is enough
  • English language profiency certificate

All required enclosures must be at the admission services of JAMK University of Applied Sciences by 27 September 2017 by 3:00 p.m. (UTC+2). You can send them by email admissions(at)jamk.fi or post/via delivery service to the address: Admission Services of JAMK UAS, Rajakatu 35, 40200 Jyväskylä, FINLAND.


If you are a refugee or in a refugee-like situation and the qualifications you have obtained cannot be proven through documentary evidence, the UAS' concerned can still invite you to the entrance examination. In this case you must prove the refugee status by a decision made by a competent authority and send a copy of the decision (a decision on asylum or a residence permit granted on the basis of a need for protection) to the admission services by 27 September 2017 at the latest.

English Language Profiency Certificate

Regardless of nationality, all applicants must provide proof of their English language skills by 27 of September 2017 by 3:00 p.m. Finnish time (UTC+2) to Admission Services of JAMK UAS.

You must provide one of the following minimum requirements:

  • IELTS, academic level 6.0 (copy is enough)
  • TOEFL 550 paper-based test/TOEFL 79 Internet-based test
  • Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), level C
  • Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), CEFR level C1
  • Pearson test of English, Academic 51
  • skills level 4 in a National Certificate of Language Proficiency test in all areas of the English language, including reading comprehension, listening comprehension, speaking and writing (see www.oph.fi/english > Services > National certificate of language proficiency (YKI))
  • Advanced International Certificate of Education Diploma (AICE) taken in Finland
  • Finnish matriculation examination: grade C in the advanced syllabus test in the English language
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: grade 4 in the advanced syllabus test in the English language
  • European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma: grade 6.00–6.95 in the advanced syllabus test in the English language
  • Reife Diploma: grade 7 in the advanced syllabus test in the English language
  • an upper secondary level certificate or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree completed in English in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand as well as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree completed in English in an EU/EEA country.

The language certificate must be valid during the application period. The Pearson test of English, IELTS and TOEFL certificates are valid for two years. There are no limitations on the period of validity of the other certificates.

A TOEFL test score will only be accepted if it has been directly submitted from the TOEFL Educational Testing Service (ETS). JAMK University of Applied Sciences' Toefl code is 0719. You have to order Pearson test results also for us via PTE’s website. Cambridge Certificate: you need to send your Candidate ID number and secret number to us.

Discretionary Admission at JAMK

To be eligible it is necessary for applicants to have the English language proficiency certificate (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL) and NON-EU/EEA CITIZENS to have the final high school/senior secondary school certificate(s).

However, if it is impossible for you to provide these certificates, you can apply via discretionary admission. This means that if there are not enough eligible applicants, we can invite you to the entrance examination based on the certificates you send us by 27 September 2017 (3.00 pm, UTC+2). Notice that JAMK's first-choice applicants are priority.

If you want to apply via discretionary admission the following steps need to be taken:

  1. At first fill the online application form at www.studyinfo.fi during 6 - 20 September 2017 by 3:00 p.m. (UTC+2).
  2. Then send the copies of the
    • possible final school certificates and transcript of records,
    • translations (if needed),
    • English language proficiency certificate and possible other certificates to JAMK's admission services.
  3. The attachments must arrive to JAMK's admission services by 27 September 2017 by 3:00 p.m. (UTC+2).

Notice that TOEFL score results are accepted only directly from the Educational Testing Service. JAMK’s TOEFL code is 0719.

Based on the documents JAMK/the head of the degree programme decides whether or not you are given a chance to participate for the entrance examination.

International Business: Entrance Examination 60 points:

  • Motivational discussion 20p
  • Written and oral communication skills in English 20p (min 12 p.)
  • School performance 10p. (this will be checked from your senior secondary school degree certificate/transcript of records by head of the degree programme)
  • Extracurricular activity 10p.

An applicant must score at least 12 points from the written and oral communication skills in English -part.

The applicants should bring their possible recommendation letters and possible attachments of extracurricular activities to the entrance examination. Interviews/entrance examinations are arranged in Jyväskylä, Finland or via Skype during October 2017.

JAMK´s Bachelor's Degree Programme in International Business does not co-operate in organizing the entrance examinations with other UASs / degree programmes in the fall application period. The results of the entrance examination in the DP in International Business are not transferable to any other degree programmes.

Student are chosen by taking into account the diversity of countries. We reserve the right to make changes.

Selection Between Applicants with Equal Admission Scores

In cases of equal admission scores, JAMK's applicants will be ranked on the following grounds in the final selection:

  1. points awarded for the entrance examination;
  2. the applicant's preferred programme ranking on the application form

If the above mentioned criteria fail to produce a difference between tied applicants, they will be automatically ranked by a computerised lottery.

Tuition fees for non-EU/EEA students

Tuition fees at JAMK

The tuition fees of JAMK University of Applied Sciences for NON-EU/EEA citizens are €8,000/academic year for bachelor's degrees taught in English (International Business). The tuition fee entitles the student to study and receive a degree and to use the normal support services available to students.

However, all students have to buy books and other educational material themselves as well as take care of their own travelling and living costs. Average monthly living cost for students are estimated to be about 700 euros (accommodation, food, public transport, study materials, clothing, and leisure activities).

Scholarships at JAMK

In the first academic year the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee at JAMK. At JAMK a scholarship can be given only to such students who are required to pay tuition fees. In the joint application the scholarship application can be filled as a part of the application form at www.studyinfo.fi.

The results of student selection are announced at the earliest in the beginning of November and at the latest 24 November. The scholarship decision is given together with the admission results. The deadline to accept the study place and the deadline to pay the invoice of the tuition fee is 8 December 2017.

In the following academic years the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee if a student earns at least 55 credits per academic year. The scholarship can be received only for the standard study period (in International Business for 3,5 years) and only for the semesters one has enrolled for attendance. Consequently, the fee must be paid for all semesters and academic years for which the student enrols as attending student, including any extension period.

Who is required to pay the tuition fees?

The fees will concern non-EU/EEA degree students who start their studies in English-taught Bachelor's degree programmes in August 2017 or after that. The tuition fee does not apply to persons who are citizens of EU countries, in the EEA, or persons who are treated as EU citizens by agreement by the EU, or the family members of such persons:

*) Students who apply for a degree programme in which the studies starts in 1 August 2017 or later are required to pay tuition fees for that programme. However, if you have started the studies already earlier (e.g. in 2016), you may complete the studies (graduate) in the programme without having to pay tuition fees.

To prove your citizenship or residency status, you are required to enclose a copy of your valid passport or national ID card where your citizenship is indicated, and/or a copy of your valid residence permit in Finland by 27 September 2017. Citizens of Finland are not required to provide proof of their citizenship as it will be verified from the population register. Notice, if you receive one of the documents mentioned above at any point of the application period or later during your studies, please provide us the document immediately. You will be exempted from paying the tuition fees starting from the next semester at JAMK.

Residence Permit

If you live outside EU or EEA, you need to apply for a residence permit before leaving for Finland. It is recommended to do so without a delay at the nearest Finnish consulate or embassy after getting the notice of acceptance letter.
