Bettina: Double Degree Student from Austria, Master of Business Administration

Studied in Vienna, worked in Dublin - and wanted to see more

""I have always wanted to be among the very best – the cream of the crop so to say – and I chose JAMK. Even though we are high up in the north, JAMK offers its students brilliant professors and business people from all over the world ""

The cream of the crop

Before I, a 25-year-old Austrian, even started my studies in the field of European Economics at the University of Applied Sciences in Vienna, I made the decision to go abroad and gain additional international experience. I had already worked in Dublin in 2010 and wanted to see more of Europe.

When I heard about Finland’s outstanding education system, I decided I would be obtaining a Double Degree: MBA from JAMK in addition to the MA from my own university.

I have always wanted to be among the very best – the cream of the crop so to say – and the recent announcement of the European Commission proved me right! JAMK got Erasmus-Gold for its effort to enforce international staff exchange and increase teaching quality.

International and brilliant lecturers

Even though we are high up in the North, JAMK offers its students brilliant professors and business people from all over the world that are willing to share their knowledge in various areas: Natalia Ceruti, an Argentinean entrepreneur that encourages you to be inspired by your own ideas and the people around you or Murat Akpinar, originally from Turkey who makes you work in teams of three different nationalities to fully embrace diversity or Risto Korkia-Aho who takes you to Silicon Valley and introduces you to a whole new mindset!

Students are amazing

The most amazing experience I had with Finnish students was when I went into a classroom not knowing anybody and facing Finnish at its best. From one moment to the other the conversation switched – without asking – to English so I could participate… amazing!

Of course there are also a lot of other nationalities on campus and I am very glad to say that I have very good friends from France, Pakistan and Russia, but also made good contacts with people from Morocco, Germany, Czech Republic, Spain or Vietnam.

Peace and beauty

In Jyväskylä you are surrounded by three different lakes, a picturesque harbor area, hiking areas and so forth. The air you breathe is not only a bit cooler than what you are used to, but also fresher. You feel very vital in Finland.
