Project description
EU's Net Zero Industry Act aims to increase the production of Net Zero technologies in Finland and in EU. The long term aim is to push forward the transition from fossil based energy to green energy. The Net Zero Industry Act is part of EU's The Green Deal Industrial Plans.

One way to reach these goals is to establish Net Zero Indstry Academies, which will operate under EU's Net Zero forum. These academies will provide education related to Net Zero technologies and generate new business opportunities nationally and on EU level. This project aimed to apply the Net Zero Industry Academy status to Central Finland, for the Bioeconomy Campus in Saarijärvi. The Bioeconomy Campus contains two educational institutions focusing on smart and sustainable bioeconomy: the vocational college POKE and Jamk University of Applied Sciences, Institute of Bioeconomy.

This project aimed to create a Net Zero Industry forerunner status for Central Finland, by implementing following actions.

1)  By building a new, demand-driven education model, which creates skills and use of Net Zero technolgies in Finland (and in EU)

2) By co-creating a new 6 months long education model, which entails information of 5-6 selected Net Zero technologies. The education model is created by Jamk and Poke, together with regional and national stakeholders.

3) By following the development of the Net Zero Industry Act, on EU-level. And by developing a larger co-operation plan together with interested stakeholders.

This project was implemented by Jamk Bioeconomy, during 02/2024-08/2025.

Project was funded by the national development fund AKKE.

Project results

 The Net Zero
Industry Academy project did not achieve its objectives due to the slow pace of
decision-making at both national and EU levels, as well as the lack of clear
guidance. The project aimed to develop a training model, but this would have
required more information about the theme of the Finnish Net Zero Industry
Academy. Additionally, the project sought to apply for official status and
continued funding, but such opportunities did not arise during the
implementation period. The information gathered by the project regarding the
operations of existing Net Zero Industry Academies and EU-level guidelines has
been compiled into a summary report.
