Project description
The main objective of the Musicians' Wellbeing and Multidisciplinary Support Network (Resoma) 2.0 project is to enhance the expertise of music educators, teachers of musicians, and healthcare and social service professionals. This will help create a shared understanding of what it means to be a musician and how the wellbeing and work ability of musicians and music enthusiasts can be supported in a sustainable manner.
In the Resoma 2.0 project
1. A multidisciplinary network of professionals will be established in Central Finland, bringing together experts with knowledge of the key factors affecting musicians' work ability, as well as the prevention and treatment of conditions that may hinder playing and occupational performance. The network includes both music professionals and healthcare and social service practitioners.
2. The competence of educators will be strengthened by providing training for music pedagogues and music teachers, ensuring that they have sufficient skills and knowledge to support the development of music students.
3. Awareness and expertise among healthcare and social service professionals, musicians, and educators will be increased regarding the key factors affecting musicians' work ability, related challenges, and their holistic management. Topics include repetitive strain injuries, ergonomics, body awareness, and support for mental wellbeing.
Target Groups
The direct target groups are music pedagogues, music teachers, healthcare and social service professionals working with musicians, orchestral musicians, and freelance or self-employed musicians. Indirect beneficiaries include students in music and healthcare-related fields, amateur musicians, and audiences who consume music.
Healthy and thriving musicians enable high-quality and diverse concert activities, teaching, and project work that can be offered to a wide range of audiences across society.
Activities and Outputs
During the Resoma 2.0 project, the needs of the multidisciplinary network will be assessed, and an operating model will be developed for its activities. Training events focusing on musicians' wellbeing will be organized for project partners. In addition, the project will implement the ResomaLab, a practical laboratory environment in which symptoms that interfere with musicians' performance are examined and discussed from a multidisciplinary perspective.
Based on the training activities and ResomaLab experience, the project will develop an openly accessible MOOC course on the Digicampus learning platform entitled 'Supporting Musicians' Work Ability and Wellbeing', as well as the guide 'Resoma Guide for Educators: Practical Guidelines for Supporting Body Awareness and Wellbeing in Teaching'. Furthermore, an operational model describing the ResomaLab concept will be developed for the Finnish Music Campus.
Dissemination of Results
The project results will be disseminated through the Music Campus Open Online Music Campus (OOMC) website, where all completed project materials will be published and made openly available.
Partners
The project's target groups and collaboration partners include music professionals, providers of music education, and healthcare and social service professionals from Central Finland, as well as the Finnish Association of Music Medicine (Suomen Musiikkilääketieteen Yhdistys, SMULY ry), which operates nationally and internationally.
