Project description
CircularFarmPlastics project brings together farmers, municipalities, businesses, and policymakers to improve the collection, reuse, and recycling of agricultural plastics. Its objective is to reduce the release of microplastics into the environment and promote circular economy-based practices.

The project addresses key challenges in agricultural plastic waste management, including inadequate collection systems, contamination of materials, high transportation costs, and limited recyclability. Farmers are provided with training, guidance, and awareness-raising activities on the proper use, storage, and recycling of agricultural plastics. In addition, the project promotes the deployment of innovative technological solutions such as compactors, mobile collection services, and plastic washing and pre-treatment systems. Good practices and experiences from effective logistics and business models are also shared and adapted for use across the project regions.

As a result of the project, farmers will benefit from more efficient and cost-effective waste management services, recycling operators will gain access to higher-quality recyclable materials, and policymakers will have better evidence and knowledge to support the development of agricultural plastic management. The project also contributes to the harmonisation of practices and policies that promote the circular economy of agricultural plastics across the Baltic Sea Region.
