Project description

CAPAGE - Promoting academic and professional excellence in health care to meet the challenges of aging in Sri Lanka

Background of the Project

Sri Lanka faces a unique challenge: it is one of the fastest aging countries in South Asia, and an unprecedented economic crisis has led to an increase in poverty. The growing number of health issues related to aging requires a qualified healthcare workforce. In response to this need, a consortium of four European and six Sri Lankan universities has been formed with the aim of developing sustainable innovation capacity for the reform of Sri Lanka's higher education in aging and geriatrics.

Project Objective

Throughout the project, healthcare capabilities will be enhanced to meet the challenges of population aging by qualifying the necessary healthcare personnel and workforce through modernized education. The goal of the project is to enhance the expertise of professionals working with the elderly in Sri Lanka's healthcare system in a coordinated and interdisciplinary manner, utilizing EU standards and national health priorities. The project will develop higher education and vocational training programs in healthcare for healthy aging and geriatrics. To achieve these objectives, extensive international collaboration will take place between EU and Sri Lankan partner universities.
