Tips for getting back to your studies

Thinking about returning to your studies after a break? That’s great! We’ve put together some tips to help make your return as smooth as possible. At Jamk, you’re not alone - our student services, study counsellors, career tutors, and other support and wellbeing services are here for you.

Things to take care of before returning to your studies

Check your study entitlement status

Make sure your study entitlement is still valid. If needed, apply for a regranted or temporary study entitlement to complete your degree. You can check your status by logging into Peppi with your Jamk credentials. If you’re unsure or need help, don’t hesitate to contact Student Services: studentservices(at)jamk.fi

User account

If your password has expired or you’ve forgotten it, you may need to reactivate your Jamk user account. You can reset your password by verifying your identity with online banking credentials at tunnistus.jamk.fi

Attendance enrolment

Make sure to enroll for attendance according to the academic calendar.

PLP meeting

Book a PLP meeting with your career tutor or study counsellor. The best time to plan your upcoming studies is before enrolling for courses, ideally in early August or November. During the meeting, you’ll update or build your personal learning plan (PLP) and decide which courses to enroll.

You can find your career tutor in Peppi by clicking your name in the top right corner, then go to Settings and there Study entitlement information. If needed, ask Student Services for help.

You’ll find your study counsellor’s contact information via the link below.

Enroll for Courses

Use Peppi to enroll for your courses. The Peppi instructions will help you plan your schedule with Timetable engine, add courses to your PLP, set their timing, and complete your enrolments.

If the enrolment period has already ended, your career tutor or study counsellor can guide you on how to proceed. You can explore available courses in the curriculum and the Study search.

Healthcare fee for students

Pay the healthcare fee for students in higher education. All degree students registered as attending are entitled to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS). You must pay the healthcare fee to Kela for each semester you are registered as attending.

Please note that Kela does not send a separate invoice, but you need to take care of the payment yourself.

Start the studies

Start your studies and make use of guidance and well-being services as needed. When returning to your studies you can get support from your career tutor or study counsellor. There also other guidance and well-being services at Jamk, as well as the services provided by FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service).

When returning to your studies, you may have many thoughts and questions related to coping, motivation or time management. Explore the mental health materials on the Nyyti website.

In addition to the general instructions above, please also review the specific guidelines relevant to your situation below
