In the North East of Northern Ireland there are three rural communities working with Innovative Village Project.
The North East region covers Ballymena, Ballymoney, Coleraine, Larne and Moyle, a total rural population of approximately 95,000 and a geographical area of about 2,300km2. The area has an extensive coastline with Scotland. The whole country is predominantly rural. There are small villages, sheep farming in the uplands area and beef and dairy cattle in the lowland areas. Also tourism is important with the Giants Causeway, a World Heritage Centre, attracting over 800,000 visitors.
