The objective of the education is to respond to the growing challenges of cyber security.

After completing the studies you will know about management, technical implementations, auditing, legislation and regulations of cyber security. You know how to plan, develop, implement and control different technological solutions in realistic company environments. You also learn how to test and audit these solutions. You have the knowledge and skills to defend cyber security attacks in a realistic environment. 

Cyber security applies to all companies and organisations, whose business depends on working information technology environments. The constantly automating, digitizing and IT- dependent society needs a functional and secure IT environment. Thus, cyber security touches the lives of all of us as consumers, employees, entrepreneurs and citizens as members of society, regardless of age.

The key contents of the education

The extent of the education is 60 ECTS credits. Your studies include the following. 

Expert Core Competence

  • Security Management in Cyber Domain, 5 credits  
  • Cyber Security Implementation in Practice, 5 credits 
  • Auditing and Testing Technical Security, 5 credits 
  • Cyber Security Exercise, 5 credits 
  • Master’s Thesis, 30 credits 

Shared Master Competence

  • Research and Development, 5 credits (preferred) 
  • or Management, 5 credits 

 Elective Studies 

  • Elective Master’s Degree Level studies, 5 credits 

 

Master’s Thesis is a Research and/or Development project, which is clearly working life oriented as it is assigned by a company or an organization. With the Master’s Thesis you clearly demonstrate your ability to apply current research information to an industry or business related problem. You demonstrate your abilities to perform in a job demanding highly specialised knowledge and skills.

In addition to that, the education deals with the general security activities in the field of ICT, legislation of the field and national security criteria. Theoretical contents include also the design, encryption and detection methods of data security.

During the education, the students will learn to find known and unknown vulnerabilities of information technology devices and to test data security. The students will also learn to defence against data security threats and to realize counter-measures.

Tuition fees

The tuition fee of Master's degree programme in Cyber Security is €9,000/academic year. The tuition fees concern mainly those students who are not citizens of EU/EEA area. Read more about tuition fees and scholarships

 

Weekend contacts in Jyväskylä or Helsinki

There will be one group with weekend contacts in Jyväskylä and depending on the number of applicants, we will also establish one group with weekend contacts in Helsinki. In the entrance examination interview, we will further inquire your preference of location for your study group.
