Project description

The DigiScope3 project focuses on developing new abilities for the SME sector for environmentally friendly reporting in the Scope3 type. This is necessary as the traceability requirements tighten, e.g. through legislation. In the project, Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) develops ways to reliably calculate CO2 emissions during the manufacturing process, and Jamk University of Applied Sciences (Jamk) develops sustainable procurement processes that equally utilize digitalization. However, DigiScope3 goes beyond regulations and aims to find out how better traceability and measurement of carbon footprints or even carbon handprints could help companies create new business models based on the data economy and new innovation.

The targets of the project are as follows:
Target 1: Produce a comprehensive report on carbon footprint measurement and reporting, including the tools used in the process.
Target 2: Create practical demonstrations and pilots for carbon footprint measurement.
Target 3: Identify practical challenges and benefits for the business sector that emissions reporting can bring. Target 4: Develop ecosystem-like activities around the theme.

The measures of the project are as follows:
WP1: State-of-the-art survey of the situation in the SME sector, existing tools and projects
WP2: Jamk: Sustainable and digitally intelligent procurement operations
WP3: TAMK: Measurement of manufacturing emissions
WP4: Reporting as part of the data economy
WP5: Communication and national and international cooperation

The target group of the project is the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing industry in Pirkanmaa and Central Finland.

DigiScope 3 is a project co-funded by the European Union, with the funding authorities being the Council of Tampere region and the Regional Council of Central Finland.
