The LEAPXR project (Linking Education and Applied Practice for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in eXtended Reality) aims to position applied European Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) as engines of innovation, tackling pressing challenges in healthcare and fostering regional and global economic growth. By harnessing the transformative potential of Extended Reality (XR) technologies, the project addresses critical societal needs such as aging populations, healthcare disparities, and regional innovation gaps, while fostering inclusivity and advancing gender equity in tech-driven entrepreneurship.
At its core, LEAPXR integrates entrepreneurship into applied education and research, creating pathways for innovation that extend beyond institutional and regional boundaries. Through its Innovation Vision Action Plan (IVAP), the project equips students, staff, and industry partners with entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to co-create impactful solutions in healthcare and technology. The LEAP Women in Entrepreneurship Programme further strengthens this vision, empowering women to lead in fields like XR and deep tech.
Inclusive Entrepreneurship Framework
In the LEAPXR project, we aim to foster entrepreneurship in extended reality and health by embedding new structures and methods into institutional strategies. We focus on cultivating institutional change and engagement by empowering innovation leaders, enhancing collaboration, and promoting diversity and inclusion across the partner institutions.
Our European experts are developing the Key Innovation Leader and Engagement Concept, which will be followed by a series of Key Innovation Leader Workshops during the project phase 1.
The themes of inclusivity are also reflected in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Training, which integrates gender-awareness and inclusive practices into entrepreneurship education, for example in the LEAP Women in Entrepreneurship Programme.
European XR Innovation Hub
LEAPXR project aims to build a European innovation ecosystem that connects universities, startups, and industry partners to accelerate entrepreneurship in extended reality and health. The pioneer partners are also mentoring novice institutions to build their capabilities in and excellence in XR technologies.
One of the project goals includes the establishment of the E³UDRES² XR Center of Excellence and the XR for Healthcare Innovation Lab, which will unite existing XR labs and infrastructures to enable collaborative development and testing of XR solutions in healthcare.
The mission of connecting Higher Education Institutes and industry partners is also fostered during our project. The European experts will develop a Business Launch Pad, a scalable program to support the establishment and growth of new, emerging companies in the field of extended reality.
State-of-the-Art XR Infrastructures
Advanced XR infrastructures are the technical and physical backbone of the LEAPXR project, which connects our expertise to real-world context. These tangible environments, including labs, testbeds and inspiring facilities are made for developing, testing and applying XR technologies in healthcare and will be accessible to academia and industry by the end of the project in 2027.
Testbeds and XR laboratories can be utilized to exchange knowledge and experiences between the project's various partners, thereby promoting the adoption of XR technologies among both healthcare professionals and students. At the same time, collaboration can be expanded to include the development of joint solutions and the strengthening of cooperation between organizations.
The XR environments are designed to engage students and professionals to develop their skills and competence through hands-on action with real XR infrastructure. The XR for Healthcare Innovation Lab allows industry partners to test healthcare applications in action and provides a testbed for researchers to pilot innovative approaches for using extended reality in healthcare.
Entrepreneurial Models in Practice
LEAPXR will translate proven models from EIT initiatives into actionable training programs, bridging the gap between theory and real-world entrepreneurship. We are embedding entrepreneurial principles into education and applied practice to empower students, researchers, and staff to innovate in extended reality and health tech.
Our team of experts focuses on developing practical tools, training, and scalable models that support entrepreneurship across partner institutions. For example, the LEAP Entrepreneurial Toolbox offers ready-to-use resources for XR and health(tech) entrepreneurship, provided tools ranging from ideation and validation to prototyping and pitching. The toolbox is designed for use in classrooms, incubators, and interdisciplinary workshops
We are also piloting and testing the Business Launch Pad Programme, which is designed to support early-stage ventures, all tailored to the XR and health tech context. By the end of the project, the programme is also being transformed into a online course to ensure a long-term-impact and dissemination of our project deliverables.
Sharing Success and Scaling Impact
Our project consortium in LEAPXR believes that innovation reaches its true potential only when it is shared, celebrated, and scaled. One of the most important project deliverables is to implement a comprehensive Communication and Dissemination Plan. This plan is designed to ensure long-term impact, sustain project results, and make outcomes accessible to the identified target groups.
Our multi-channel dissemination strategy includes podcasts, conferences, workshops, and engaging content across social media and web platforms. By actively sharing best practices and success stories, we aim to inspire innovation and strengthen regional ecosystems across Europe.
