Game Track

Career paths to Game Industry

The project strengthens game industry expertise and entrepreneurship in Central Finland. The Game Track program supports early-career game developers in finding employment in the industry or starting their own game company. At the same time, the initiative also develops the skills and readiness of regional employment and entrepreneurship services to better support game industry stakeholders.

The lack of job opportunities in the game industry drives talent elsewhere from our region – by increasing the number of companies and support services related to the sector, we strengthen the attractiveness and retention of game industry expertise in Central Finland.

Career paths to Game Industry

The main goals of the Game Track project are to strengthen knowledge and readiness related to entrepreneurship in the game industry and to promote employment in Central Finland through the creation of new game companies. As a result of the project, job seekers and emerging talents will improve their capabilities to start their own game business or gain employment in the field. At the same time, the expertise of professionals in organizations supporting employment and entrepreneurship will be enhanced in terms of initiating and developing game industry entrepreneurship.

The Game Track program primarily seeks junior-level game developers who either need support and momentum at the beginning of their careers or want to establish their own company. The program's activities and workshops will mainly take place on-site in Jyväskylä, but remote participation will also be facilitated to allow participants from across the Central Finland region to take part.

Target groups of the initiative:

Unemployed job seekers
Participants in the Game Track program are mostly younger developers, career changers, unemployed individuals, or alumni from Jamk and other universities of applied sciences.

Gamedev students
The goal is to enable game industry degree students to establish themselves in Central Finland, either by starting their own company or by gaining employment in a game industry company.

Support organizations
The operational models developed during the project will remain in use by local organizations promoting employment and entrepreneurship, deepening their understanding of game industry.

Work packages

The project is implemented through three thematic work packages:

Development of business ideas and products in the Game Track program

The Game Track program will be organized three times – in autumn 2025, and in spring and autumn 2026. The approximately five-month program is targeted at job seekers, unemployed individuals, and both domestic and international students, especially those who are graduating soon or have recently graduated.

During the program, participants work in multidisciplinary teams that either develop new game prototypes or continue developing existing ones with the aim of launching a business. Alongside game development, the program offers coaching in business planning, commercialization, funding, and the essential skills needed to start a company.

Increasing knowledge in advising and supporting game entrepreneurship

Starting in early 2026, workshops and events will be targeted at organizations in Central Finland that support employment and entrepreneurship and can contribute to advancing game industry business activities. Alongside the Game Track programs, entrepreneurship support models tailored to the game industry will be developed to strengthen the launch of game startups and identify the sector’s specific needs.

Through these workshops and a game entrepreneurship handbook, the expertise and counseling capabilities of organizations supporting entrepreneurship and employment will also be enhanced with regard to the game industry.

Dissemination of results and communication

During the project, information about entrepreneurship in the game industry will be shared through multiple channels. Participants’ learning and entrepreneurship stories will be highlighted, for example, through a podcast series, blog posts, and articles. In addition to these participant stories, a game entrepreneurship handbook will be published, designed to remain a lasting resource even after the project ends.

The project’s activities and results will be actively communicated, especially through the social media channels of GamePit by Jamk with the goal of showcasing both the opportunities and challenges of the game industry in the Central Finland region.
