SENEL dissemination in Finland
The Finnish SENEL seminar was organized at JAMK, Teacher Education College on 16 March 2017. The goal of the seminar was to present different tools developed by the project partners: the Mini-Guide for Employers and the Passport to Employment for Young People with SEND. The seminar also presented Exhibition on Good Practices on the Employment.
The day included the following presentations
- Introduction to the day, JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Maija Hirvonen.
- Presentation of the SENEL project, University of Northampton, Sheena Bell.
- Experiences on the employment of young people with SEND, Kaisa Perämäki (The Finnish Deafblind Association) and on the planning successful employment as a part of VET studies including students` success stories, Miiko Taka with her students Hennariikka Pärssinen and Joona Holm (VET College Bovallius).
- SENEL Passport to Employment for Young People with Special Educational Needs/Disability, Tuulia Kiilavuori (JAMK)
- Mini-Guide, the Finnish version, Antti Teittinen and Simo Klem (FAIDD)
- Presentations of other employment-related projects: Key-Tutor, Osata-project.
Dr Sheena Bell (University of Northampton) visited the seminar along with partners from the FAIDD organisation. Dr Bell gave an introductory presentation on the SENEL project and the representatives from FAIDD, Dr Antti Teittinen and project worker Simo Klem, shared Finnish experiences on the Mini-Guide for Employers. The seminar attracted an amazing 73 participants and was also live-streamed through the internet to many more participants across Finland. (Our target attendance for this event was 25!) During the event we also hit our 200th Twitter follower!
Highlights of the event were wonderful speeches and confident answering of questions by three young people with learning difficulties, along with an employer and a trainer. Our new product, the online Passport to Employment for Young People with SEND, is currently in the piloting stage. It was presented in the workshop, and is being very well received by both trainers and young people.

International meeting in Czech Republic
The first exhibition of good practice and public meeting about the SENEL project took place in March 2016 in Brno. Around 50 participants from various institutions – government departments, job centres, care homes and NGOs – listened to the experience of the SENEL partners and discussed the ways to improve employment opportunities for young people with SEND. After lunch the participants left for two site visits organized as part of the seminar. The first one took place in a workshop V Růžovém sadu, z.ú. where the people make small wooden items. The second site visit took us to the social enterprises Hlívenka, Pradagos and Simeva focusing on agriculture and gardening. During coffee break and lunch all participants were invited to look at and discuss the SENEL exhibition and videos presenting good practice in partner countries.
