Seven growth companies joined forces with leading industrial partners in the BioBoosters Programme 2025 to co-create solutions for the future of agriculture. The initiative sparked pilot projects, research collaborations, strengthened networks, and opened doors to Nordic markets for agri-tech innovators.

Agriculture’s transformation goes beyond new technological solutions. It thrives on collaboration, where building a trusted, well-connected ecosystem is key to turning innovations into solutions that meet farmers’ needs.

The BioBoosters programme drives this change by fostering a smart farming network of startups, growth companies and leading industrial partners, creating the structures needed to validate new technologies in northern conditions.

“The BioBoosters programme is a unique way to bring together the ecosystem: startups, industrial partners, universities, and investors. Startups play a significant role in bringing new ideas to market, and the agricultural sector urgently needs innovations to boost productivity. Collaboration within the ecosystem is crucial to turn research-based ideas into practical solutions,” emphasizes the broader impact of the programme Matti Härkönen, Partner at Innovestor.

Building Bridges Between Startups and Industry Leaders

The 2025 cohort focused on smart farming, future energy sources, and green house gas emission calculation. Selected from over 200 growth companies, participants included Batemo (Germany), Escarda Technologies (Germany), Winterleap (Norway), Quanscient (Finland), Improvin’ (Sweden), Mavarick (Ireland), and Delta Cygni Labs (Finland). Their solutions ranged from AI-driven battery simulations and quantum-powered platforms to chemical-free weed control, advanced connectivity, and data platforms.

One-to-one advisor meetings focused on building relationships and initiating collaboration with industrial partners AGCO Power,Valtra, and Neste. Through joint workshops and company visits, the participants gained market knowledge, financing and industry insights, along with support from various stakeholders to accelerate business growth in the Nordics.

“BioBoosters Programme has been an excellent place to meet people, learn about partners’ needs and requirements, and plan proof-of-concept projects we can do together,” sums Tuomas Eerola, Vice President from Quanscient the benefits of joining the programme.

“Thanks to the programme, we now see the Nordics as a potential market for our company,” says Umaira Suaib, battery application specialist at Batemo. “The programme has provided us with national industry validation. We’ve learned a lot about market requirements,” adds Heidi Frost Eriksen, CEO of Winterleap.

From Pilot to a Permanent Innovation Model

Over two programme rounds, BioBoosters programme has evolved to better serve both partners and participants. The selection process now allows partners to involve their own experts in innovation work and assess collaboration potential with startups.

For industrial partners, the programme offers also new insights. “Growth companies are agile, creative and open to co-develop new approaches and that is exactly the mindset needed when we accelerate the green transition”, says Sven Lanens, Manager, Strategy and PMO from Neste Marketing and Services.

Jarno Ratia, Director of Global Product Management at AGCO Power, explains: “When we speak with the new companies, we get fresh ideas and insights from them. With this BioBoosters programme, we probably can change the whole mindset. And as we expand the network and get to know each others better, collaboration becomes easier and more effective.

In the future, the programme will provide a ready-made model that enables an industrial partner, regardless of industry, to quickly explore the startup market in a chosen field and accelerate its own innovation activities.

The three-month programme is led by the business accelerator BioBoosters by Jamk in collaboration with Innovestor. It is part of the Finnish Future Farm project, which aims to create an international collaboration network and accelerator ecosystem for smart agriculture and bioeconomy, and to promote digital innovation and competitiveness in agriculture.
