11.6.2026 Guided walking tour at Jyväskylä and historic University campus following the footstep’s of the famous architects
Welcome to join the cultural programme on June 11th! During the NordYrk2026 conference, you will have the opportunity to explore the upper side of Jyväskylä with local guides.
Jyväskylä is well known for Alvar Aalto’s architecture. There are 29 buildings in the city and surrounding areas that were designed by Aalto. Jyväskylä is therefore called as “the capital of Alvar Aalto”. The University of Jyväskylä campus, for example, consists of beautiful buildings designed by Aalto and built between 1951 and 1970. Aalto designed several of these buildings, including the university's main building, Restaurant Lozzi, the Lyhty conference and seminar room, the Sports Hall of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, the Student House, and the city's indoor swimming pool, AaltoAlvari.
Near the university campus is the area designed by architect Wivi Lönn. The interplay of light on the walls and the vibrant gardens beneath the windows, offering views of the sparkling lake, are just some of the features.
Please note that the walking tour is not fully accessible. The route features cobblestones, stairs, and varying elevation.
When and where: on Thursday 11.6.2026 at 16.30 - 18.00. The walking tour starting point will be a short walk from Jyväskylä centre, the exact place will be announced later.
