Individual Special Arrangements and Accessibility in Studies
Everyone is entitled to equal study environment. You can progress in your studies according to plan even if you have dyslexia, an illness or a disability, issues with mental health, a different language or cultural background or other difficulties concerning studies. Similarly, top athletes are entitled to individual support in their studies.
You will receive support and guidance in your studies, and you can apply for individual special arrangements to support you in your studies. Do as follows:
1. Preparation
You need a statement or document as the basis for individual study arrangements. This may be, for example, a certificate of dyslexia or a statement from a study psychologist / other health care expert. In the absence of a statement or certificate, apply for e.g. Jamk's dyslexia assessment, study psychologist or student health care.
3. Meeting
Attend a meeting with any statements or other documents (e.g. a certificate of dyslexia, doctor's or psychologist's statement).
The purpose of the meeting is to plan a individual special arrangement to support you in your studies, such as:
- added time to complete exams
- added time to hand in written assignments
- a quiet room for taking exams
- a lighter version of the personal learning plan (PLP)
- courses and groups providing study support
- receiving study materials from the teacher in advance
- using the Celia library
If necessary, the study counsellor will guide you to find out more about your situation, for example, to a study psychologist, to dyslexia assessment or to student health care.
5. Decision
The head of your degree programme will make the decision on your study arrangements and your study counsellor will inform you of this via email. As an attachment to the email, you will receive a decision on individual study arrangements as a pdf file.
6. Study arrangements in practice
In order to gain access to these study arrangements during a specific course, show the decision to the teachers sufficiently in advance in the course(s) in which you wish to benefit from the support. At the same time, tell the teacher what support you need during the course and agree on the practices in more detail if necessary. If you have been granted writing support or additional teaching from the Language Center, contact the Head of the Language Center (Pirkko Pollari).
If challenges arise in the implementation of the study arrangements, please contact your study counsellor.
