The Joint Institute operates as part of Xihua University and provides locally delivered engineering education through collaboration between Jamk and Xihua. The aim is to educate internationally competent engineers who meet the needs of working life.
Three Degree Programmes and Study Towards Double Degree
The collaboration covers three bachelor-level engineering programmes:
- Automation and Robotics
- Mechanical Engineering
- Software Engineering
Students will complete their entire degree at Xihua University’s campus in China. Students are expected to graduate with a double degree, provided they meet the requirements of both institutions. The planned duration of the Joint Institute collaboration is 14 years and includes ten student cohorts.
A Significant Step in Jamk’s Global Education Services
The collaboration strengthens Jamk’s position as an international provider of education services and expands its existing education cooperation activities in China. The Joint Institute model brings multiple degree programmes under a single structure, making it a broader and more comprehensive entity than earlier initiatives.
The preparation of the collaboration has been an extensive and multi-phase process involving experts from both organisations. The process has ensured academic quality, financial sustainability, and compliance with regulatory requirements in both countries.
“Jamk has years of experience in providing education services to China, particularly in engineering as well as the social and health care sectors. This step with Xihua University has been carefully prepared, with the aim of building a long-term partnership in an important operating environment. China has rapidly developed into one of the world’s key technological powers. This collaboration reflects Jamk’s strong position as an international partner,” says Vesa Saarikoski, Rector of Jamk University of Applied Sciences.
