The pressure on the European health care system is increasing considerably: more elderly people and patients with chronic diseases in need of rehabilitation, a diminishing work force and health care costs continuing to rise. Improving interprofessional and person-centred collaboration between health and social care professionals has been proposed as one solution.

The transfer from tertiary education to practice concerning interptofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) in rehabiliation is the central theme of the INPRO-project. The ultimate aim is to improve functioning, health and quality of life of patients.

The main purposes of the INPRO-project are to:
- improve interprofessional skills and competence (IPE) of health professionals, both in education and in practice, lecturers and managers;
- deliver a set of basic and advanced modules of functioning according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) on interprofessional skills training; and
- strengthen regional bonds between higher education institutions and rehabilitation centers in order to pilot IPECP and use promising regional experiences for international exchange.

In order to work towards the output and outcomes of the project, the consortium has planned two-way approach. Starting with and from a solid theoretical base for interprofessionalism and functioning (WP4 and WP5), sevaral pilots on interprofessional working in education and in practice will be developed, tested, adapted and implemented (WP6 and WP7).
