Working mum looking for higher education

I had wanted to study for a long time but finding the time and energy was always a challenge. When I heard about the International Business Management Masters Degree Programme I jumped at the chance. It was geared for people like me, a busy working mom looking for higher education.

Classes were intense and the days were long but I did not have to compromise so much on working hours. I worked full time and studied full time. It helped that I had the full support of my employer and my family. Courses were in the late afternoon into the evening and on weekends. Of course that meant giving up valuable family time, but classes were only two days a week.

New ideas got me past my existing limits

There was quite a lot of homework that needed doing. I often did my homework after my children were asleep. That meant that I had less sleep than I would have liked but it was all worth it. One of the great things about studying was that all the courses expanded on my current knowledge. I got to use what I knew and got brand new ideas to take me past my existing limits. I found a new way of learning and thinking.

Study at your own pace

You can study at your own pace and if you have a thesis subject mapped out from the beginning, it is possible to finish fairly quickly if you have the drive. I had my thesis subject already at the beginning of my studies and continuously worked on it from the very beginning. Because I took courses and wrote my thesis simultaneously, I was able to graduate within 19 months. I am not saying that this is or should be the plan for everyone! I got quite a few grey hairs in the process.

We worked in groups or alone. I really got to know my classmates. We became a rather close knit group of people that all wanted the same thing, an education. My classmates were mostly from Finland but there were some exchange students as well that added to the international flavor.

I would totally recommend studying at JAMK in the International Business Management Masters Degree Programme. I now have a good education and a brighter future because of it.
