New business opportunities are presented daily around the world

"Studying in English, meeting people from all around the world and making connections to local entrepreneurs from day one was absolutely brilliant - if somewhat overwhelming at first. The most valuable lesson I learned in IB was about networking"

Past - where is the challenge

It took me quite a few years to find my own path in life and really decide what I am interested in. Back in the days before JAMK, I worked in a seafood wholesale factory, coal-fired power plant and as a candle manufacturer for a number of years. There was nothing really wrong with what I was doing, but there just wasn't enough challenges available - I wanted more from my path in life.

The first steps of this path I took back in the Autumn 2008, as I started studies in IB. Studying in English, meeting people from all around the world and making connections to local Jyväskylä entrepreneurs from day one was absolutely brilliant - if somewhat overwhelming at first. The most valuable lesson I learned in JAMK and IB was about networking: create, maintain and improve your networks constantly in order to keep ahead of the competition.

For example, I still frequently keep in touch with my former mentors (teachers) in JAMK and attend the IB Spring Ball annually, of course.

Present - getting started

During my years in IB and Jyväskylä, I took part in student, trade and local politics through various organizations. I also had the privilege of travelling around the world representing these organizations and JAMK - for example back in 2010, I attended the United Nation's Youth Assembly in New York, USA. An absolutely awesome boost of internationalization, that I am grateful for.

Today, I am the Secretary General of HAAGA-HELIA Student Union HELGA, which includes a lot of administrative tasks such as accounting, billing HRM-work, leadership and strategic planning - perfect for my background in IB. Working with student trustees and the administration of HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences is great fun and keeps my days versatile.

I am also a member of the board of directors in Mors Digitalis Ltd, a startup I helped put together. Investing time and money in a startup felt at first a bit scary, but now I am already looking into new opportunities and plan to invest in or start a few businesses in the near future. And we still need to found MurAku Corporation with my best mate from IB - Mr. Murat Kilic.

Future - I am the king of the world

As to my ambitions, politics and business go together quite well as in the future the market economy will have an even larger effect on people's lives than now. The middle classes in Asia and South America as well as Africa are growing fast and new business opportunities are presented daily around the world. This means that there is a fortune to be made internationally!

And there is no better place to start your career than the Degree Programme in International Business in JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä, Finland. Small enough to see the trees from the forest but big enough to cut down the whole forest if required!
