The
project continues to progress well despite the difficulties raging all around. It
has been well documented elsewhere that the African continent lags the rest of
the world in terms of immunization levels through no fault of its own. In
Ethiopia this has meant that only those public service workers in major
conurbations have received vaccinations. At the time of writing, there remains
a requirement of all travellers to isolate for a period of five days upon entry
into the country, which would hamper the efficient use of resources if
conducting a field trip. In addition to this, an insurgency has been ongoing
for most of the year which has rendered ETU's satellite colleges located in the
north of the country closed as communities became displaced. These two major
difficulties have meant the, like all other projects, that no face-to-face
contact has been possible between northern and southern partners. All contact
has therefore been via VoIP platforms. That said, it's not all doom and gloom;
all four outputs have progressed well through a multitude of constant online
meetings and workshops. The project has completed a great amount of work under
these trying circumstances and is roughly where we can expect to be at this
point in time. The progress made in each output will be described in later paragraphs.
