Joint national university-polytechnic application process for Bachelor degree students starts on 10 January

The first stage of the spring’s joint national university-polytechnic application process starts tomorrow, on 10 January, and lasts until 25 January 2017 at 3pm. During this time, you can apply for the following English-language Bachelor’s degree programmes offered by JAMK: nursing, international logistics and international business. Apply online at www.studyinfo.fi. You can apply if you have completed your English studies in upper secondary education.

“The applicants of JAMK’s Nursing, International Logistics and International Business degree programmes are all selected based on an entrance examination, which also tests the applicant’s language skills,” says Application Coordinator Sanna Tyrväinen.

The scope of the degrees that start in the autumn ranges from 210 to 240 ECTS credits, and the studies take around 3.5–4 years on average. The invitations to the entrance examinations are sent around mid-March and the entrance examinations will be held in Jyväskylä in April. Abroad, they are held by the Finnips network.

The new legislation concerning tuition fees in Finland came into effect one year ago.  It obligates the universities and institutes of higher education to charge tuition fees from students that are not citizens of a member nation of the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA) and who will start their degree studies after 1 August 2017.  The tuition fees of the JAMK University of Applied Sciences are €8,000/academic year for Bachelor’s degrees and €9,000/academic year for Master's degrees.

“The tuition fees are still not applied to Finns or the citizens of other EU/EEA countries,” says Nina Björn, International Relations Manager of JAMK.

“At this stage, it is impossible to predict how the tuition fees will affect the number of applicants. At the moment, JAMK has around 400 students that come from outside EU/EEA countries.”

The tuition fee entitles the student to study and receive a degree and to use the normal support services available to students. The tuition fee is charged for all terms and academic years for which the student has enrolled as attending, including any extension period. The students can apply for a stipend for their first year, which covers 50% of the tuition fee. During the following academic years, the granted stipend covers 50% of the tuition fee, provided that the student achieves at least 55 ECTS credits during the year.

The free-of-charge application webinar held by current international students can be watched online on 10 January starting at 9am at here.

The results of the student application process will be published by 30 June.
