The Vocational Teacher Education Programme is meant for adult professionals from various fields

At JAMK University of Applied Sciences' Teacher Education College, adult students are provided with the pedagogical qualification for teaching in Finland and practical guidance skills that can be used in various working environments. Applications for the Vocational Teacher Education Programme's internationally oriented group are accepted until 26 January, 2017.

The Vocational Teacher Education Programme is meant for adult professionals from various fields. As a rule, applicants must have a suitable higher-education degree and three years’ work experience. The programme provides the pedagogical qualification for teaching in Finland.

Many of the students who choose this programme are already working as teachers without the necessary pedagogical qualification, while others choose it to take their career into a completely new direction.

– The demand for guidance and education skills is on the rise, as workplaces are forced to adapt to changes more and more quickly, says Harri Keurulainen, Principal Lecturer at JAMK's Teacher Education College.

–  This is not only for those who wish to become teachers, this is for all who are involved with any kind of training in their working life. Companies need people who have the skills provided in these studies, states Kodjovi Lotchi, one of the students in the programme.

Depending on the adult student, the programme usually takes 1–2 years to complete. In the internationally oriented and multicultural study group, all teaching will be done in English.

Most of the students will complete the programme while working full time, which is fully possible as there are usually less than 10 classroom days in a full semester. In addition to traditional classroom studies, the programme consists of individual and group-based e-learning tasks, individually performed learning tasks and practical training as a teacher.

Applications to the vocational teacher education programme can be submitted using the studyinfo.fi service. The application period is from 4 January, 2017 to 26 January, 2017.
